Women’s Basketball Final – Concordia-Moorhead 64, Guilford 50

RALEIGH, N.C. – Emily Thesing made five three-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points in Concordia College’s 64-50 win over Guilford College Friday in the opening round of the Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament at Peace College.

The Cobbers (1-0) advance to Saturday’s 3:00 p.m. final against Salem College, a 53-52 winner over the host Pacers (0-2) in Friday’s second game. Guilford (0-2) will play Peace in Saturday’s consolation contest at 1:00 p.m.

Alexandra Lippert added 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for Concordia, which owned a 48-32 rebounding edge. The Cobbers gathered 17 caroms off the offensive glass, 10 by Lippert, and enjoyed a 22-4 edge in second-chance points. Tricia Sorenson totaled 14 points, nine boards, four assists and four steals in a solid all-around night.

Guilford’s Morgan King scored the game’s first basket, but Concordia scored the next seven points and never looked back. The Cobbers led by as many as 13 in the first half before Guilford trimmed the deficit to 35-29 at halftime. Gabby Oglesby’s (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) bucket got it to a four-point game in the opening minutes of the second half, but Concordia outscored Guilford, 13-2, over the next six minutes to effectively put the game out of reach.

Oglesby finished with a team-high 14 points for the Quakers, 10 in the second half. King finished with 11, as did freshman Brittany Drew (Greensboro, N.C./Page).
