Easttern Guilford 78

The Cowboys of Southwest Guilford High School played host to the wildcats of
Eastern Guilford in both teams opening acts of the 2011-2012 season. Someone
forgot to tell some of the cowboys as they came out flat. On top of that the game
began with a technical foul on the Cowboys for dunking in the pre-game warmups.
Starting down 1-0 the Cowboys stayed in a funk that could not shake out of as
Eastern Guilford stayed bucket for bucket. After the first frame Eastern held a
slim 20-18 lead. The Cowboys finally realized that the season started and came out
with a quick 4 point run as the balance began to shift back towards the hosts.
After briefly trading baskets the Cowboys began using the momentum of the raucous
crowd and pulled ahead by as many as 12. But the Wildcats were not done fighting
as they trimmed the lead to 49-38 at the half. The momentum stayed with the
visitors as the came out after the break with their own spurt to cut it to 51-46.
But that was as close as it got for the rest of the game as immediately afterwards
the Cowboys got a few turnovers in a row and got easy baskets on their end. The
lead got as big as 20 but after 3 quarters it stood at 70-53. The fourth quarter
was similar to the first as each team traded baskets but in the end the Cowboys
were victorious 96-78. Southwest was lead by Terrell Leach, Jordan Hanner, and KJ
Langley’s 30, 21, and 12 points respectively. Brandon Hairston paced the Wildcats
with his 30 points.

  1. Yes Southern Alamance beat NW Giolford 50-45.

I told everybody a few days ago that this would happen. Shaylen Burnett transferred to Southern Alamance from River Mill. She gonna be let loose to do her thing! She can’t be stopped, so let the Shay Show begin! All of her teammate have new confidence because of her.

Southern Alamance will go from worst to 1st. Look out Dudley, NW Guilford, Page, Grimsley and all others. The Southern Alamance girls are for real!!

  2. I’m a little curious patriot.I can’t seem to understand why you and ppl in alamance county keep pumping shayla.when she played for river mill she maybe was the 3rd best scorer on that team in a weak conference.now your at southern and your still not the best player on a weak team.she had what just 13pts in her welcoming out game to the conference.Just let her play.and if she is good it will speak for itself.Actually the way you talk i would think you are one of her parents.Like I.said.i’m just curious

  3. No curious…..I am the parent. First of all, River Mill Academy had a record of 36-2, With non-conference victories coming from the likes of Durham Hillside,High Point Wesleyan,Greensboro Day School,Winston-Salem Prep,Davie county,North Lincolnton,Bassett(VA),Southlake christian,Wilson(VA),Norfolk Christian(VA),Murphy and were runner-ups in the ESPN/Boo Williams holiday classic .I agree with you on the statement “let her play speak for itself” and it will. Shaylen cannot be measured by points alone and the ones that have witnessed her game understand that. In the win against Northwest Guilford she only played the first three minutes of the first half due to early foul trouble and still had an impressive stat line in spite of that. I wiil say again I agree..”.let her play speak for itself” and it will…..then as the season progresses maybe you too will become a believer and not just merely CURIOUS?

  4. FYI, Whenever or wherever I post something or formulate an opinion on a topic, You will never see me hide behind a “pen name.” My name is Tracy Burnett, my wife’s name is Tracy M. Burnett and WE are the proud parents of Shaylen Burnett. Let’s play ball!

  5. Breaking news!!! Southern Alamance was victorious tonight in the Headliner classic against Southlake christian by a score of 80-48. The lady patriots were attacking Southlake on both ends of the court. Shaylen Burnett almost recorded a quadruple-double: 8 steals, 4 blocks, 13 rebounds, 15 assists and 18 points. Hollie boggs lead the team in scoring with 21 pts. 11 of the 13 players scored and it was a total team effort……congrats to the LADY PATS!!!!

  6. Mr.Burnett.the paper actually said.Hollie Boggs 21 pts,5 steals,5 rebounds to Lead Southern Alamance.Shaylen Burnett ADDED 16 pts,9 assist,6 rebounds.actual stats.

  7. The Burlington Times-news actually stated that Shaylen has 18 pts. not 16. I have three children and anyone who knows me will attest to the fact that I video tape every second of every game that they have every played. I account for their stats through this method. The only thing that I can conclude is that the reason for the descrepency in her assists and rebounds is due to the interpretation of an assist or rebound, I just count what I see on my video. No biggie…..just a matter of interpretation. GO LADY PATS!!!!

  8. After further review of my video of the Southern Alamance/Southlake Christian girls game on 11-26-2011, with the assistance of third party verification, my above stats STAND. Andy, if you would like a copy of the game footage I would GLADLY provide you with one at your request, or for anyone else providing me with contact information. When it’s all said and done……the facts are what they are ….FACTS.

  9. Wow!!! There’s alot of hostility on here! I’ve seen Shaylen play several times and I will attest that she is an outstanding basketball player and extremely underrated. Yeah, from what I’ve researched she hasn’t had outstanding numbers this season in the scoring area BUT she has had a tremendous amount of assists and rebounds. SHE’S a TEAM PLAYER people! I’ts obvious she doesn’t have to have a 30 point game for SA to be victorious. She’s kicking back and watching her teammates do damage after she distributes them the ball. She’s playing the TRUE position of a point guard (even though she’s actually a very versatile player) . I was at Wheatmore when SA defeated Southlake Christian and I , myself am a witness. And as far as them coming 3rd in the conference is a TOTAL understatement “Vegas Mike” . From very reliable sources I’ve heard that The Lady Patriots defeated several top teams in their county over the summer. Including Walter Williams High School and Graham High School who BOTH made it to the semi-finals in the play-offs last year. So i would like to conclude this by saying give the girl her props, she’s obviously earned them and jump off the hating band-wagon. Thank you and have a great day!!

  10. We will let it stand pat on the Pats….Looking forward to watching Shay play and will have a lookout for when they take on Dudley, SEG, Page, Smith, WG, Grimsley and all the Metro 4-A clubs….Anticipating some real good battles in the Metro this season……

Crazy thing is, that Coach Tommy Cole at Burlington Williams is coaching both the boys and girls teams this year….That is going the extra mile or two or three…

  11. Listen andy.there are alot of ppl who could be on here advertising hyping there kids.theo pinson, jaquel richmond, maranda jenkins who dominated when she was at eastern guilford.i just think you set your kid up for faluire or unwanted attention when you try this hard to hype a kid.none of these kids have made a paycheck yet playing basketball.so just let them play and if they are good.it will show and you dont have to announce it weekly.

  12. Valid statement by “The Truth” with which I agree, fans are gonna hype and haters are gonna hate. Me, I am here to defend my daughter (Shaylen Burnett) our school (SA). With that being said, I absolutely agree with “The Truth” and let the kids efforts and the game decide. Let the chips fall where the may. Let’s play ball!

  13. The true test comes 25-30 years from now….How many of today’s players will still be out there somewhere shooting the rock when the lights go down and the crowds are all gone and web sites are talking about somebody else….I was out there shooting a few hoops yeaterday and it is for real, all about a real love for the game…I think every day you shoot a basketball or catch a football or run up a baseball and throw it back in, it is an educational process and it never stops….Always something more to learn about these games…..Love of the game is why you will see the lifers out there in the future….

I think for now, we all look forward to seeing what these kids will do this season on the courts….

  14. Mrs. Burnett

Don’t forget that you all gotta come to Dudley where we rule he conference and will continue to do so. Whats going to happen when we put Shay and the rest of her crew on major shut down? By the way, there are some Guilford County girls that have come through here that can flat out get it done and has already done it over the long haul. Have you seen any from your experience that you care to name?

  15. First off all I am Mr. Burnett, And no we haven’t forgot about the reigning top dog in the conference , props given. I guess if you shut the whole team down like you said, you’ll win the contest, last years contests ended in Dudley wins by an avg. margin of 55pts. That is now history and this is a new Southern Alamance with a new attitude. We are looking forward to the meeting, but at the moment “we have other fish to fry” Good luck with the shut down and good luck defending your crown. We are very pleased that you at least have us on your minds…it is indeed an honor. Play ball!!!
