  1. There were some other good games Saturday at Wheatmore especially the 2 night games. The West Forsyth and SW Guilford game was a hard played game won by W. Forsyth. The refers nearly lost control of that game. The final game between Thomasville Prep and Dudley was good. Thomasville won by 15 but they should have won by 25 or more. The Thomasville game looked like “women” against “girls”. Dudley keep crying about bump offs and complaining to the refers instead of just matching the speed and/or phsyical play of the team in front of them. SW will only lose about 3 or 4 games prior to the state playoffs & will make another playoff run if they can hit their outside shots. Thomasville Prep does not have a deep bench so they may lose up to 6 games this year against the national teams such as Providence Day, Miller and Oak Hill type of teams. Dudley will only lose about 3 games this year prior to the state playoffs. 1 in their Christmas tournament in Atlanta and 1 within conference on an off shot night.

    The other games were interesting.
Smith has a decent team but their guards are making a lot of mistakes. They can get up and down the court quickly but they are making some risky passes and taking poor shots. I don’t think this year’s Smith team will beat the following teams on their schedule: Dudley, Mt. Tabor, Southern Alamance, and I think they will split with Southeast and Western. Thus, they will go about 15-11 and not make the playoffs this year.

SouthEast Guilford played as well together as any team that I saw yesterday. They only had 1 “strong” player and a couple of decent players but their teamwork makes up for a lot of their short comings. I would not be surprised to see them with a 18-8 record and making the playoffs. They will not beat any teams like Dudley & Southern Alamance but they will split with teams such as Page and Western.

GDS was an interesting team. I did not know what teams they have on their schedule but they have some really good players at all positions. They had bigger and more athletic girls than what you would have expected at a place like GDS. I guess GDS basketball is not for boys only anymore.

WestChester lost big but they only had 6 or 7 players. Maybe they were missing some of their key players. If not, they are going to have a rough year.

Bishop McGuinness as usual has a good team and they will dominate their conference schedule. They do not appear to have the play makers of the past such as Whitley or Megan but a solid team that plays together.

Does anyone agree or disagree with what I saw?

  2. that was Thomasville Prep silver boys team that beat New Garden Friends School. The gold team will play Quality Education Monday night at home

  3. To Good Games & Teams:
First you must be a SW fan because your storyline on that game is false. What I saw was an out of control SW team trying to play on the hype of what happened last year. Hey news flash….It’s a different year.

The T’ville Prep vs. Dudley game was a really good game. It had nonstop action from start to finish. As for complaining to the refs I don’t know what you saw, but I saw an evenly called; evenly matched game. Actually if Dudley would have hit their ft’s and shot better from outside, the game might have had a different outcome.

So, stop hatin’ on Dudley. They played well against a team that can recruit all over the world and only lost by 9 pts at the end of the game. Can’t say that much about SW girls. They are scared to play T’Ville Prep and Dudley!!

  4. Southeast Guilford defeated Forsyth Country Day 56-42. FCD has a very good team and they are big. SEG is very young but is talented. SEG will play East Forsyth on Monday night at East. It will be an interesting season in the Metro 4a this year.

  5. This years Headliners Challenge had some really good games and then there were some games that should not have been played in an event of this magnitude. The Bishop vs Westchester game should have never been played also the GDS Wheatmore game was just ridiculous. I know it was Wheatmores home gym but maybe they should have played Westchester and GDS should have played Bishop.

Just some thoughts on the event: I thought GDS played well they have some good components on there team I am interested in seeing what they look like against better competition. Its easy to look good against schools like Wheatmore, when they play a team thats more athletic and bigger at the guard positions its gonna be interesting.

I thought Smiths talent was on display, they were just a little outta control at times. There post play is a lot better this year than last year. Smith vs GDS would make for an interesting Little 4 championship game. That is if the brackets for the little 4 aren’t unfairly stacked in favor of undeserving teams like Northwest and Northern who are clearly aren’t even in the same talent bracket with theese two.

Page: Uhhhh Not so much… Kayla Johnson and their center Chelsea played well but without Paris Kea to orchestrate the offense and score points where needed its gonna be a rough year for the Pirates.

In the two night cap games: Southwest Guilford didn’t look goo at all but i know the talent level is there and the coaching is there. I think this was a wake up call for the state championshiop hangover. They will be much better going forward and much sharper.

On the other hand West Forsyth looked really strong and physical they should be ready for a good year.

Thomasville Prep looked good as expected. I thought Dudley played them tough with good man 2 man pressure but the talent of Thomasville prep allowed them to make key plays when crucial moments of the game. The point guard number 4 was extremely strong and physical. Initially when this season started I thought that this would be a down year for the Dudley Panthers…. I was wrong they looked strong against a much more talented team. you won’t play many teams in NC public schools if any where the 6 ft 3 post players can step out and drain 3’s consistantly. If everyone stays healthy Dudley should win there conference once again and make a deep run into the playoffs and if the stars align possibly state title opportunity. An interesting date on the Dudley schedule is Dec. 15th where they have a date with West Forsyth that should be a battle.

  6. I don’t think Thomasville Prep was more talented than Dudley. The ability to execute properly was the difference. Thomasville Prep was 18-7 last year and these girls all play each other during the Spring and Summer months. Dudley could have beaten them and no it does not elevate Dudley by saying they played a National type team. Hitting freethrows, converting in transition and having the ability to minimize mistakes .Publicized marquee players need to step up in spot light type games. None of that happen. The point guard for Thomasville prep played well but can she really do that against guards that can really play and have the skill set? Yes, the 6’3 girl hit some outside shots but her interior game needs a lot of work because she seems very uncomfortable in the paint area. It has nothing to do with who is recruiting her at this stage. Dudley freshmen Essence Chambers showed a lot of moxy and seems ready to be a primetime player in the years to come.

  7. How did Page do at the Tournament and Southwest Guilford? Did Paris light them up? What about Zena Lovett and Jessica Pone? I know they must have had big games.

  8. Southwest Guilford lost to West Forsyth and it is only listed as a 2-0 score on both schools MaxPrep sites, so we will have to find more on that one….Page not sure, but will look up….Last we heard Paris was injured and may need that surgery…..Do not know all the details, but we wish her the best as she works to get back to full force….

  9. Got the score on SWG-West Forsyth and it was:
    West Forsyth 59
    Southwest Guilford 55…

Page played Surry Central on Saturday at Wheatmore and we will try and get more on that one…..

  10. You see Stephanie thats why nobody pays to hear your opinion. I really don’t know what game you were watching but Thomasville Prep clearly had more team talent than Dudley. When I say that I mean from top to bottom T. Prep probably played everygirl on there roster except for maybe 1 and there was never much of a drop off. Dudley played maybe 8 girls at the most and a couple of them were only to give first half relief to guards with foul trouble. Don’t get me wrong an 8 to 9 man rotation is deep for any public school!!! Even SW Guilford last year on their state championship run only played 7 consistantly. Also the 6 ft 3 girl that was hitting the 3’s… the reason why she looked uncomfortable in the post is probably because she is not a post!! She played the wing majority of the game. She slid down to play the 4 position when big #3 picked up 3 fouls early in the 1st half. But I guess you think just because you do the jump ball or you play the middle in the 2-3 zone that makes you a center?… Well an untrained basketball mind would think that so you get a pass. Now what else lets see… Oh yea the point guard #4 she did have a good game. Probably because she is a good player. Would she do that against other guards??…. Yep Im pretty sure she would as a matter of fact Im pretty sure I’ve seen her push around a buch of guards that are high caliber guards. Essence ABRAHAM did a fantastic job staying in front of her and making her change directions frequently. But because of Sarah Beal’s (#4) size and strength she was able to get into Essence body and force her to the spots she wanted to go. Plus #4 usually starts for them at the shooting guard position or come off the bench, Cedrica Gibson usually starts at the point guard and thats a whole different caliber of guard. Lets not kid ourselves Thomasville Prep is a pretty high caliber team with tons of talent and college prospects and Dudley is pretty high caliber in there own right, but Thomasville Preps ability to get the players that they want make them a tough match for anybody around here and Dudley played them well. The pace that Dudley plays at is crazy and that is very hard for anyteam to keep up with, but because T. Preps guards were so talented and experienced they were able to controll the pace for large portions of the game. You were right on a couple fronts Dudley did not shoot well from the line and there were a few bone head mistakes but. I don’t think any other team in that Headliners Showcase would have even stood a chance against Thomasville Prep. NOT SW GUILFORD, NOT WEST FORSYTH, NOT BISHOP MAGUINESS NOBODY!!! If they think so they should put them on the schedule and play them.

  11. Thomasville Prep won the game but I will not say that they are better than us and that they have superior players. I am not sure if many of their girls could start for us but I know for a fact that many of ours could start for them.

  12. I know must Dudley fans are reasonable people and they do not agree with comments such as “Panther Nation” but I must say that some Dudley fans are just nuts. How can you make a statement that many of Dudley’s players would start for Thomasville Prep but they could not start for Dudley. I was at that game and I clearly remember Thomasville Prep beating Dudley by about 10 points. In fact, Thomasville could have easily won by 20 or more if they did not hurt themselves with some poor. Thomasville Prep girls already start in front of or play on older/better teams than the same “Dudley” players that you are referring to in AAU. So, if the Thomasville girls beat them head to head and they are on the higher team in AAU, then at what point are they “better”. The Dudley girls are good and will have their day but do not make them out to be something that they are not. They have 2 or 3 girls potentially at the level of the first 6 or 7 Thomasville girls but let’s not put Dudley’s whole team somewhere that they are not. Dudley just plays a system that most teams have a hard time handling because of the athletes and speed on the floor. Do not mix the ability to run up and down the floor with the ability to play the game properly. Teams that take care of the ball, stop the break and that can make perimeter shots will beat or keep 95% of the games close against Dudley. Again Dudley, good team but not a superior team.
