GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College sophomore Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) earned the school’s Student-Athlete of the Week Award Tuesday. The weekly prize is presented by Guilford’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Oglesby, a 5-11 sophomore forward, averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in the Quakers’ 2-0 week. She had a team-and career-high 26 points on 13-for-18 shooting, and tied a team-high with 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season in Guilford’s 82-66 win over Meredith College Dec. 10. In Guilford’s 75-66 victory over Roanoke College Dec. 6, Oglesby recorded 11 points, three rebounds, and a steal. Oglesby’s 69% field-goal shooting during the week helped the Quakers extend their winning streak to six games, the program’s longest since 2002-03.
Oglesby ranks 10th among Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) scoring leaders with a team-high 13.6 points per game average. Her 7.2 rebounds per game average ranks second on the team and 12th in the league.
Coach Stephanie Flamini’s team is 6-2 (3-0 ODAC) headed into a month long winter break. The Quakers play their next game Tuesday, Jan. 3 at Hollins University.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among Guilford’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include cancer awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
