Southwest Guilford Takes Chapel Hill – Boys Basketball

Once again the Cowboys of Southwest faced off against another undefeated team. This time around it was the Tigers of Chapel Hill High School. This game was a serious game of runs. The first quarter belonged to the Tigers as they dominated the ball and took advantage of 10 Cowboy turnovers to hold a 23-14 lead. The second quarter however was for the Cowboys. They forced turnovers and scored in bunches and started the frame on a 8-0 run, then after a Tiger layup, a 3 pointer tied the game at 25. The Cowboys had all the momentum in the game until a buzzer beater layup cut the halftime score to 37-33 in favor of Southwest. That bucket was the second biggest basket of the game. Chapel Hill used that as a trigger and had control of the third quarter, and ultimately the game. On the surface the Cowboys were in the game and even held a 55-52 lead with 10 seconds to play in the third. Then Denzel Ingram hit a 3 at the buzzer to stab the Cowboys in the heart with the biggest shot of the game. The fourth began with the Tigers getting baskets consistently while te Cowboys couldn’t buy a bucket. The game stayed just out of reach, at the 1:52 mark it was 69-64. And the Tigers steadily pulled it out to the tune of an 82-72 victory. Southwest was lead by Jordan Hanner (18), Quincy Williams (12), and Ray Bridges (11). The Tigers were lead by Denzel Ingram’s 37 points. The Cowboys just were not the same squad without Terrell Leach.
