It was the opening round of the Sheetz Holiday Classic at the Ranch of Southwest Guilford were the Cowboys played hosts against the Cougars of Calvary Baptist Day School. For the Cowboys it was their second straight game without leading scorer Terrell Leach, and as the game began it appeared the rest of the team was still on holiday break as well. The Cowboys were able to put a few baskets together as the first quarter ended to put it at 19-12. The second quarter was back and forth as they tried to figure each other out, with both squads turning it over liberally. At the break it was 36-29 courtesy of a 3 pointer just before the break. The second half saw more turnovers and more sloppy back and forth as they played essentially even the rest of the way. The Cougars kept it within striking distance with a handful of late 3 pointers, but in the end the athleticism of the Cowboys proved enough for a 78-67 win. The Cowboys advance to play Andrews tomorrow night at 7:30. The Cougars were lead by Graham Burke (17), Tyler Rose (15), Austin Rose (14), and Darin Ketner (12). The Cowboys were lead by Jordan Hanner (28, 6 threes) and Brandon Clyburn (19).
