Saw where Grimsley had a quad match yesterday and they went (1-3) overall in the four grappling events and can you imagine what it would be like if D.J. Reader was a high school wrestler??? He is a great athlete and super basketball player too, but I bet the kid could wrestle….One man can’t change your entire team outlook and individual wins don’t necessarily take you to the top, but it would still be interesting to see from a fan’s standpoint…..Always neat to see those big heavyweights going at it….(They should let D.J play basketball and wrestle too and bring back the old four-sport athlete….Many kids used to play baseball and run track in the same season.)
From the matches, we found that one of the kids we have been seeing a lot of over the past couple of years, Justin Stanley, went (3-1) on the day, with his only loss the 9-8 decision to Joseph Coss of South Mecklenburg….The only loss was to Coss at 138 pounds….Looks like Justice Bailey in the 145 pound class and Rylee Cherrington at 106 also just dropped one match for Grimsley on the day and finished at (3-1), just like Mr. Stanley…..And with even more review, we find that Matt Sarachaga at 126 and Super Heavyweight Jaycoa Silva also grabbed three wins each for Grimsley, finishing (3-1), but each man earned a win by forfeit…..
Speaking of those forfeits, that is one area where Grimsley could use some help, with the Whirlies having to forfeit three weight classes at 182, 195 and 220….Upon further review, make that five weight classes where Grimsley had to forfeit, with no Whirlies at 120 and at 132 pounds……
Grimsley over Starmount in their team victory, 42-36……Giving up all of those forfeits and still grabbing the win, that is a pretty good accomplishment…..
