  1. Andy you asked me for the kids that have played or committed to play in college since Dave Beasley took over as head coach. I sent you the names under separate E-Mail. There are eleven that have signed or committed to play in college since Dave took over and two seniors have had offers and will be deciding what they want to do soon. I realized that when you look at Dave’s middle school years and the program as a whole there were a lot of kids I left off. Matt Long,Mike McClain Jr., Toby Middleton, Clint Moore, Dusty Schutt, Lester Rivenbark, Cameron Cockman , Austin Moyer, Jeff Medley, Kyle Bolick, Kent Gilliland, Heath Calligan, Mike Bengston, Randy Melton, Jason Bunting, the Swofford brothers, Paul Yodis,Terry Clapp and others — Plus the ones I can’t think of make quite a list. Dave was undefeated in Middle school for nine years and I was privileged to help him with part of it. Why all the talent and success? It took a community. Pleasant Garden Community Center baseball started the foundation years ago. I coached the first Pleasant Garden Pony League team to a undefeated city Chamipionship team in 1988. There were guys like Cicero Craven, Bill Slayton, Roy Turner, Dave’s dad Bill Beasley, Kevin Callahan and Lynn Coble that mentored these young men with help from volunteers such as Mike McMclain Sr., Dino and Joey Hackett along with Kevin and Larry Moore. That was a lot of good coaches. American Legion and Grady Lawson played a part along with our Jr. Legion program.
The most important “fundamental” that Dave Beasley has taught or tried to teach his players is in the way he lives his life on and off the field. Dave is a Christian and witnesses to his players and those that coach with him. He never fails to give credit to his savior and is not ashamed to tell others how Jesus works in his life and the life of his players. When you think about it that is the greatest “fundamental” a coach can teach his players.
Our community suffered a tragic loss of some young Southeast kids recently. Life is short. When Dave’s players graduate and go off to college they will face situations and temptations that they have not faced before. I hope that they have the “fundamental” Dave has tried to teach— that is Jesus and how he can lead you to real victory. To all the coaches at Southeast past and present that understand and try to teach the “fundamentals” we should all say “Thank you !! ” Charlie Pannell
