College Men’s Basketball Final – Lynchburg 78, Guilford 65

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Xavier Parham scored a game-high 18 points and dished out six assists in Lynchburg College’s 78-65 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting Guilford College Saturday.

Parham also had four steals as the Hornets (9-5, 4-2 ODAC) forced 19 turnovers in their first victory over the Quakers since 2005. Guilford (9-5, 3-2 ODAC) had won the previous 12 meetings with the Hornets.

Manny Hernandez’s three-pointer sent the hosts into halftime with a 40-38 lead and triggered a decisive 15-0 run that spanned both halves. Lynchburg scored the first 12 points of the second period as Guilford had four turnovers and four missed shots to start the period.

Nate Campbell netted nine of his 15 points in the second half and was one of four Hornets in double-figure scoring. Center Austin Chillemi dropped in 13 points, grabbed a team-high six boards and contributed four blocks and four steals to his team’s solid defensive effort. Brendan Connor had 10 points and two of the Hornets’ 12 three-pointers.

Josh Pittman (Archdale, N.C./Trinity) paced the Quakers with 15 points, 11 in the second half. Rookie Will Freeman chipped in 14 points off the bench and classmate Matt McCarthy added 11 thanks to three three-pointers. Guilford’s Carson Sullivan led all rebounders with seven.

Guilford has dropped three of its last four games headed into Wednesday’s (1/11) league tilt at Bridgewater College.
