Second Half Run Sparks Greensboro Women’s Basketball Win Over Averett, 67-43

A 32-5 run spanning an 11:58 timespan vaulted The Pride women’s basketball team to a 67-43 USA South Conference win over Averett on Wednesday night. The win moves The Pride to 10-3 overall, with a 6-2 mark within conference play.

The Pride were held scoreless until a Danielle Duncan layup cut an early Averett lead to 9-2 with 13:28 remaining in the half. Helped by 14 Greensboro turnovers, the Cougars jumped out a 21-17 halftime lead.

The second half was a mirror image of the first, but the teams swapped places. The Pride opened up the second half on a 22-2 run that ended with 11:38 left in the game on a Liz Martin three.

Jena Cabe was the catalyst of the running hitting three baskets from beyond the three point arc. These were Cabe’s only points of the contest, but they propelled the Pride to victory.

Duncan scored a team high 14 points with Bianca Richburg chipping in 12 and Dorian McInnis adding ten. Duncan also grabbed ten boards to finish with a double-double.

Greensboro recovered from a slow first half shooting performance to finish the game at 39.6% from the field. The Pride limited Averett to 23.1% shooting. Greensboro outrebounded the Cougars 58-29.

The Pride will be back in action on Saturday at Shenandoah. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
