Women’s College Basketball Story and Boxscore: Guilford 64, Lynchburg 51

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College overcame a slow first-half start to pull away from visiting Lynchburg College, 64-51, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Gabby Oglesby’s led the way for the Quakers once again scoring a game-high 23 points to go along with her six rebounds.

Guilford (13-3, 10-1 ODAC) was paced in the first half by Jazlyn Gibbs who scored 11 of her 18 points, while junior Shelly Barker added all four of her assists in the period.

Lynchburg (4-11, 3-7 ODAC) kept the game close behind the scoring of Katie Reeves’ 10 first-half points. Neither team led by more than four points in the first half which ended with a 26-24 lead for Guilford.

The Quakers came out quickly in the second half outscoring the Hornets 19-9 over the first eight minutes of the period and never looked back. A three-pointer by Lynchburg’s Roslyn Alexander cut Guilford’s lead to six points with eight minutes remaining, but the Hornets would get no closer.

Guilford junior Brittany Atwater had 13 points and a game-high six assists to help spark the offense. Teammate Jaclyn Nucci finished with two points, but a game-high eight rebounds. The Quakers finished the game shooting 43.1 percent from the field and 3-6 from the free-throw line.

Reeves finished the game with 13 points for the Hornets. Lynchburg also had strong performances from Shannon Allan who had a team-high 17 points and seven rebounds, and Carly Greenlief’s 10 points. The Hornets finished the game shooting just 34 percent from the field and nine of 10 from the free throw line.

Guilford returns to action Saturday (1/28) at ODAC-rival Roanoke College for a 2:00 p.m. game.
