Second Half Collapse Sinks Greensboro College Men’s Basketball in 91-69 Defeat to CNU

In a battle of USA South unbeatens, The Pride men’s basketball team saw a half time lead evaporate in a 91-69 defeat to Christopher Newport at home on Saturday. The loss drops Greensboro to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

After a back-and-forth beginning to the first half, The Pride slowly built up their biggest advantage of the day at eight points. Greensboro grabbed leads of 32-24, 34-26 and 36-28 before the Captains rallied to close the gap to 41-40 at the break.

Trailing 51-50 at the 14:58 point in the second half, Christopher Newport blew the game open with a 19-4 run to push the margin to 70-56 with 9:19 to play. The Pride were unable to close the gap en route to their first USA South loss.

Luqman Tijani carried Greensboro offensively with a game high 21 points. Brock Moorman and Damian Dixon added nine apiece while T.J. Holman finished the game with seven.

The Pride shot 34.6% from the field for the game and forced 16 turnovers, while committing only 12 themselves.

Greensboro will next be in action on Tuesday, January 24 at Methodist. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
