GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s women’s swimming team won its first meet of the season Sunday when it spilt an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) double-dual meet with Emory & Henry College at Greensboro College. The Quakers defeated the Wasps, 44-39, but fell to the host Pride, 57-28. Greensboro defeated Emory & Henry, 48-28.
Guilford’s (1-6, 1-5 ODAC) victory marked the first for interim head coach Emily Wilson and featured five season-best performances. Sophomore Kendra Medina collected second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:30.34) and 50 backstroke (35.04), both of which marked Guilford’s best times of the year. Senior Kelcey Johnson took second in the 100 freestyle in a season-low 1:07.92 and junior Rebecca Dozier was second in the 500 freestyle in 7:15.61, also a season best.
Johnson and freshman Morgan McKinnon clinched the Quakers’ win over Emory & Henry by placing third and fourth, respectively, in the 50 breaststroke. Emory & Henry’s Rachel Kroggel placed fifth.
Guilford swims at Greensboro College again Friday (1/27) at 6:00 p.m. in an ODAC double-dual meet with Hollins University.
