HS Hoops Tonight with just a few games going on

Tonight for Monday January 23, 2012

Southern Guilford at Southwestern Randolph…..Have been hearing a lot about the Mayo kid from SG and I hear he can cut the mustard when the ball hits the rim and the floor….You may remember the old phrase from many moon ago, “Getting too old to cut the mustard any more”….Not with Mayo, he is going all in/all the way to the hole…..Coach William Whitaker’s SG girls are in the thick of the Mid-Piedmont 3-A Conference race and I do believe that they knocked off Asheboro the other night and followed that up with a victory over Northeast Guilford, last Friday night, to go (3-1) in the conference….Henderson has been the constant leader of the Storm, but all of the girls are improving under the guidance of William Whitaker and his newly added assistant, from N.C. A&T, is making a big difference too….

Also this evening the New Garden Friends Bears will be at the Davidson Home Educators….I remember when John and Ron Davidson were coaching the DHE squad, but not sure who is in charge these days…..NGFS is a team on the way up….Keep a look out for these Bears…..

  1. Ellis, Hughes, Chandler and Harper also looked pretty good for the Southern girls the other night vs. NEG……

  2. If Southern doesn’t loose a bunch of senoirs, they will be a force next year. My daughter plays AAU with a 6’4, solid, 8th grader who will attend Southern in the fall.

  3. What’s the word on the Southern Guilford boys? How are they looking for the future? Are you hearing or seeing anything about them other than what we have been seeing an hearing on Mayo?

  4. @Andy: if that question was for me, I’m not sure. I just know a little about girls bball in the local area.

  5. Not a problem, we will try and touch base with Coach Thompson in the near future and see if he has any more info for us and Thanks Matt for the info you provided for us here today….

  6. Should be a good game between SWR and SG girls. SWR should pull out the win. I was impressed with the guard play of Katelyn Doub and Cravens, both play with the WS Steelers aau program… Other than the 30 point loss to Ledford, Southern has had a good showing in the mid piedmont so far
