Kernodle Middle Girls: Undefeated and playing strong.
Coach Vernon Johnson is leading his lady Cougars toward a 3rd-straight
conference championship. His team has five 8th graders that play AAU ball
for the Greensboro Galaxy and the Greensboro Lady Gaters. With their
pressure defense and high-tempo offense, not many teams are able to stay
in the game with them for very long.
They are 10-0 with 4 games left: At Jamestown, home against Northern
Middle, at Southeast Middle, and at Northwest Middle, the only team to
beat them in 3 years and that game with NW will be on Feb 2nd at 6pm. The Cougars defeated NW at home on Jan 12th. NW will be looking for some payback on the NW home court.
Should be a great game featuring the futures of Western and Northwestern’s high school programs.

Kernodle is the best middle school in this city when it comes to mixing the education that you recieve with the performance that you get from sports. Kernodle has been fortunate to have some of the best coaches in the city for a number of years whether it is football, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball or track. Coach Vernon Johnson is absolutely the best middle school coach in this area. He just relates so well to his players whether they are boys or girls. Whether it is basketball, soccer or track, he will get the best out of his players from the beginning to the end. Just look at how well his players continue to play when they get to high school. His 2010, 2011, and 2012 teams had and have a lot of players that will continue to make a name for themselves in high school. If you are at Kernodle or feeding into it, then consider yourself lucky if your child plays sports. Go Cougars !
Mendenhall Middle School girls basketball team won their game today against Allen. Mendenhall is now 11-0 and really hasn’t been challenged. It is a shame that they don’t play Kernodle..would be fun to watch.
Kernodle Middle girls rolls past Jamestown Middle.
After a tighter than expected first quarter at Jamestown’s BEUATIFUL gym (that place is huge),
the Cougars blew it open in the 2nd with fast breaks and some nice outside shooting.
Both coaches let their benches play in the 4th quarter and final score was
something like 37-15 (not 100% sure that was the actual final).
Next up: Northern at home Thursday at 4:45pm. Northern can’t be taken lightly. They are well coached, have good ball handlers, and play a very stingy inside defense. The Nighthawks knocked off a talented Southeast team earlier in the season.
