Essence last name is Abraham for dudley.. not chambers.. and the freshman did put the lock down on southern alamance’s Super Star shayla burnett.her and the rest of the lady panthers made her work for everything .. they took the ball out of her hands and tried to make the rest of the team beat them. the lady panthers fouled ms burnett out and the patriots went down hill from there. it was a great defensive strategy by coach mcneil and the panthers got the job done on her… Shayla burnett has a great skill set and a great game!! just to many athletes on the lady panthers ball squad for her to overcome

4. Alot of pressure on the burnett kid. Hope she can turn into the player she is hyped to be. What colleges offers does she have?

We have seen teams that have tried to take the ball out of special players hands in this county and they could not do it because they found a way to make it happen night in and night out because they had an all around type game that was very hard to defend. The had quickness. They had smarts! They could defend! They had an overall great feel for the game and they made things happen that led to consistent winning even with out the most talented players on their team. They also had the ability to perform well in big games.

6. That Dudley vs Southern Alamance girls game was not really a shocking outcome. I agree that the refs were a little rough but they were rough on both ends. The Burton girl from SA is a good player and she did have a few fouls that could have went the other way, but that is nothing compared to how the older Rouse sister and the ^ foot 4 girl were getting hammered under the glass. Every time they would attack the glass they were getting killed!!! Also there was a very flagrant foul commited by #4 for S. Alamance on the older Rouse sister toward the end of the game that looked more like something you would see on the football field. The Refs were pretty rough but the Rouse girl got the worst of it. The Burton girl just didnt play one of her better games. Im sure there are not gonna be to many like that but Essence Abraham played a great offensive and defensive game on her.

7. I was at the Dudley and Southern Alamance game and I would say that little Essence girl from Dudley is something to watch. She was hitting shots from all over the place and that announcer was going crazy. She looked like she had Southern Alamance main player confused. She is one tough cooky!

8. I don’t know if hoping to foul someone out could be called a “great defensive strategy”, you would be at the mercy of the officials. I saw the game and it looked to me like Burnett got anywhere on the court whenever she wanted to. Heard she has a lot of interest from some major schools though, I don’t think sophomores can receive offers,could be wrong.

9. Southern Alamance and their star must have thought they were at Rivermill playing the YMCA league! If they don’t know they had better ask someone when they travel to Death Valley! Forget about being Player of the Year in conference! AIN’T GOONA HAPPEN! All Conference ? Yes! They always pick at least 15 players for that!

10. Caught most of the Dudley, Southern Alamance girls game. I think Burnett for SA is a very good player. With a very mature game. it didn’t look like the defensive pressure flustered her much, although you could see where it tokk her out of her rythm. Dudley was preventing Burnett from dishing to her teamates once she got deep in the lane forcing her to take some akward shots that she didnt really plan to shoot. She still conrolled a large pace of the game untill Essence Abraham and Moriah Davis started rolling. I remember seeing the 6’4″ Maize girl play basketball in middleschool and all I could think was the she was a disaster. Now she has really developed nicely and will be just as good and if not better that Makia Valentine and Cierra Little that used to play at Dudley a few years ago. Hats go off to the Dudley coaching staff for the progression of her game.

11. Coach Mcneil from Dudley is the best coach in the area both public and private schools.

12. Mcneil seems to be a pretty good coach from the outside looking in but I don;t know if I would say the best by far. You got William Whitaker at Southern, Delaney Rudd-Thomasville Prep, Shona Polik- Western Guilford (doing a really good job), John Shearin- HP Andrews (turning the program around), You got Terry Almond (HP Central) Shaun Newton-SE Guilford, Jessica Bryan-SW Guilford. We have really good coaches in this area.

14. I believe it went Dudley 65-50 girls and Dudley 63-57 boys with Panthers taking both games from SA last nighit…..Metro action continues on Friday night…..In fact all the conference action conitnues on Friday night….

16. It’s amazing that you people from Dudley and I guess 1st time witnesses are only focusing on this one game. This girl is a beast and when Dudley played them at SA, you saw what she can do to you or any other team that is put on her. I repeat …you have to put your “Whole Team” on her to try to stop her. It’s funny to me because, YOU JUST CAN’T !!!! Now, was this her best game, no and definitely wasn’t her worst. Ok, you got lucky, but your luck will soon run out!! Hats off to Essence Abraham, she had great 3 point shots and played great defense, but the fact still remains Shaylen got passed her with no problem. The closest Abraham got to her was on the inbound pass and she left her in the dust then. You people are delusional and living in denial and it would kill you to give this girl her credit. We don’t have a problem given credit to other players. If you got it, you just got it. Try it some time. As far as ” Lock down” a poor choice of words don’t you think.?? Maybe, changed up her game would be a better way of putting it but Lock Down…AH NO!!! Any player, coach, or fan knows that when you are in foul trouble you are limited on what you can do. She did have to hold back and play smart in the mean time. PLEASE scroll up to what the Patriot had to say to refresh your memory, and that’s not even mentioning her other stats. As far as having good defensive strategy to foul her out, if that’s your stratetegy then clearly you didnt have one, that’s called Common Sense. Thank the officials for helping you out. Again, you got lucky. FYI, Shaylen didnt receive her 5th foul until the last 2 min of the game which allowed you to score some extra points and yeah I would have taken advantage of that too. Any smart coach or team should , being you knew what you were up against. I’m sure they’ve had long grueling practices with SA on the brain. Practice makes perfect. Anywho, this site is hilarious to me. I will end on this note, It’s just amazing to me that since December 6, you Dudley fans and the blogs regarding SA has been like the sound of crickets since you first witnessed this girl’s game. SA only lost by 9 or 11 points to you that game (which you should have lost) and 15 points this game. Whoopty-doo 4points more, what an improvement. No more 89-20 games here, thats non existent (at least for the next 3 years,) so get use to it. I’m sure it was a rude awakening based on last season record and playing SA this season, huh? You soon realized playing SA was not going to be a walk in the park. It would have left me speechless to. Til we meet again………………..

18. It was a good game by both teams – clean the entire way. Basketball is a contact sport and things happen. Burnett is just a sophmore so no college is allowed to talk to her. Coach Boggs runs a clean game and coaches with a clean and learning focus. I wish that everyone would remember that these are kids – not college players. There are so many good players in the league and just let them all just play ball.

22. Good win for the lady panthers, and also good shooting by essence.That being said I think they could have a great team if they just played unselfish
    ball. Dudley doesn’t get the ball inside enough ‘not that they don’t have the players inside cause they do very good players.The outside shoot is all good as long as they are falling but when they don’t you have to have a inside presents. This is one thing that Dudley coaches need to understand if they plan on going deep in the post season……

23. What’s the purpose of the comment about River Mill? I’d like to see Dudley play River Mill. Never underestimate your opponent. There are many D1/D2 schools that recruit 1A players. Smart aleck comments putting down another school does not elevate your team!

24. Yes panther fans were crickets on here..SA ran their mouth and it got closed by action on the court not mouth on a blog. Dont speak about it be about it. So what strategy is part of winning and if a person drives to the whole take a charge. I can recall a lot of missed calls at SA. Did she foul ummm yes she did. Btw at the college level basketball is a team sport not a one person show. I think yall talk too much. She is a great ball player and yall should just let her play. I mean if yall feel one person cN beat 5 then who am i to rain on ur parade. No more 89-20games..a L is a L just like the one dudley took fromSE regardless of circumstance. Nobody wNts to play in an 89-20game anyway…boring. it was a good game not a rude awakening we appreciate ur help in getting us better. 26. @Remember- First of all, me and the world should know that at on any level of basketball a team sport is just that a team sport and not a one man show. She’s been the only one on the team that keeps getting called out or pinpointed as the one to stop so really you make her look like she’s a one man show. If her name would stay out you alls mouths there wouldn’t be any EXTRA!! MAJORITY OF THIS WHOLE THREAD, for example, is about her that is the ONLY reason I even commented ONLY about her. We don’t call out your players or any other players, we acknowledge them and respect their game just like you should. SA has other good players on the team. We have acknowleged them several times. Its time for you to acknowlede them as well. If anyone knows Burnett or Boggs, they know they are team players and love including their teammates. You need everyone’s help to win games…duh!! We are not all about points here. We get a kick out of assists, blocks, rebounds, steals, and taking charges- all the aspects of basketball. In case you haven’t noticed other players on our team have the ability to do all of these things including score!!!!! If Burnett only scored a few points and the rest of her teammates did their thang, that would suit her just fine. She’s a humble person, has heart, and wants to help and see everyone do well, thats one of the reasons she’s at SA. She loves her school and just simply loves the game no matter who she plays against, that’s just the person/player she is. We are just as competitive as anyone else. We may not be the big dogs right now, but win or lose WE STILL HAVE HEART and you can’t take that from us!! Never judge a book(team) by its cover, go ahead open up and READ!!!

28. We are very proud of our girls regardless!!! Let’s not forget about the exciting game played by SA boys against Dudley Final 63-57. It was a tight game the whole way, back to back scoring and until the last 3mins of game. Both teams played hard, but I’m especially proud of our guys. This effort shows that we are only getting better. It was a good run. Great game by Sam Hunt and #15 from Dudley (dont know fella’s name).

    Our top scorer was Josh Folwell with 20pts.

    Honorable Mentions: Daryion Matkins 11pts and Freshman Jalen Burnett 11 pts also (For those who haven’t made the connection, he’s Shay Burnett lil bro) and #44 from SA. Great job guys!! SA will take on SE Guilford on tonight.
