College Women’s Basketball Final – Guilford 67, Roanoke 62 (ot)

SALEM, Va. – Gabby Oglesby’s (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mt. Tabor) traditional three-point play with 35 seconds left in overtime helped visiting Guilford College to a 67-62 overtime win at Roanoke College Saturday. The Quakers’ 14th victory in 15 games helped them stay atop the league standings with an 11-1 league mark and improved their overall record to 14-3.

The tightly played game saw eight ties and 13 lead changes. Neither team led by more than four points in the final 23 minutes until Jaclyn Nucci’s two free throws provided the final five-point margin with seven seconds left in overtime.

Paxton Gwin’s basket for Roanoke with 39 seconds left in regulation tied the score at 57 and forced extra time. Her three-pointer midway through overtime gave the Maroons (4-11, 4-7 ODAC) a 60-59 lead with 2:33 remaining. After an Oglesby miss at the other end, Rachel Dellahunt’s bucket opened a three-point Roanoke advantage with 1:38 left.

Guilford’s Kayla Adams (Rural Hall, N.C./North Forsyth) answered with her second clutch three-pointer of the day, which tied the score at 62 with 1:16 left. The Quakers’ defense held at the other end, which set up Oglesby’s go-ahead basket. Adams also drained a three with 1:15 left in regulation, which gave Guilford a 57-55 edge.

Oglesby finished with a game-high 22 points for Guilford, which played without starting point guard Brittany Atwater. Nucci added a career-high 14 points and also had six rebounds. Fellow post Morgan King returned from a two-game absence to score seven points and collect a team-best 12 boards. Adams played a career-high 33 minutes in Atwater’s absence and finished with eight points, plus a career-high five assists and no turnovers. Teammate Alex Payne (High Point, N.C./North Davidson) added a personal-best nine points thanks to three three-pointers.
