Christ School(27-4) over Wesleyan today in High Point

Watched it on TV 48 this afternoon and it was good coverage….The Christ School Greenies won by right at 15 points, 74-61….

WES made a late run, but they were missing Montay Brandon, who left out with what I heard was a sprained ankle….

Brandon didn’t look good early and the announcers said he had to take the ACT test this morning….Christ School had a game last night and the Greenies only lost to Oak Hill 71-63, earlier this week…

Theo Pinson hit a three-quarters court shot right at the end of the first half and that wooed the crowd and he had a monster dunk with a reverse dunk going left to right and that came in the second half…Pinson had a good game, but he can’t do it all….Jaquel Richmond had a decent game and as a whole, WES did not play all that bad, they just got way behind and they never could catch the Greenies…..

Shannon Hale, Josh Level and one other kid played real good for Christ School and we have listed some of the other players in the comment box below….

WES vs. HPCA this Tuesday night and I think this one is at WES…..

+++++Ravenscroft 83-73 over Christ School last night(Friday Feb. 10 in Raleigh.+++++

  1. Will Weeks was the other kid that had a very good game for Christ School….Hairston, Allen and Eric Johnson Jr. also had played good for Christ School… CS is now.(27-4) on the year, with a win over Greensboro Day and a loss at the hands of High Point Christian….

  2. I was there WCA Coach is the worst he don’t have a clue of how much talent he has on that team. I watch that sit down on those kids 3:00 min. Left in the 3rd qt and all if 4th quarter. Remind you this game was televised to the wor
Terrible coaching its not the kids its the coach

  3. Can you give us the final and it can’t be all the coach….When one of the big three goes down the team loses it’s balance and I know a lot has been mafe of the ‘Big Three’, but that is core of the team and that is what they have to go with and build upon….I also would like to see more out of Chapman and Carelock and Carelock hit a couple of nice free throws, but today it appeared that Christ School was playing with swagger and confidence and WES was not….WES was playing catch up all day….And the way these things go, if WES gets the right re-group/rebound, they will come back and beat HPCA on Tuesday and that PACIS will end up in a three-way tie for first with HPCA, GDS and WES all having two losses each…..The ball is in the hands of HPCA since they only have one loss so far…..Should be/ought to be a heck of a game on Tuesday…..

Now back to that final score today again……

    From Friday night in Raleigh:
Ravenscroft with an 83-73 win over Christ School……..

WES has to have the ‘Big Three’ in place for this thing to work, agree or disagree…..

  4. I was told Montay Brandon suffered a high ankle sprain and is almost guarunteed to miss Tuesday and potentially could miss the rest of the season. A coach cannot make the players have heart and play with passion, competitiveness is either there or it isn’t. Tonight they didn’t act like they wanted to win and that can’t be blamed on the coach. If a televised game against a great team with significant state implications against all odds with the best player being injured doesn’t get someone fired up, then what else can be done? Theo Pinson was the only player to show up for Wesleyan. Things went wrong when Montay went out. Until that point, Wesleyan was playing well and the score was tied at 18 late in the first. Their chances of doing anything biig this year, may have been spoiled tonight with Montay’s injury.

  5. I will say that I am a GDS fan but I hope (and will pray) that Mr Brandon is able to get back on the court before the state tourney. I have been in his situation as player and with my kids over the years. This is not the way to end your high school career. I want him to finish high school on the court that helped him get to the next level so he can at least say yes that he gave his school everything that he could up to the very end. He has help WES get on the basketball map. I want GDS to win it all but WES would be my second preferences to win the states, then HPCA, then Ravencroft and please not Christ School again. Get well young man. One quick note about the coach – this team has only lost about 4 or 5 games all year while playing good competition. This team did not lose because of the coach. They lost #1 because the competition had more horses today and #2 the other team simply out worked WES today. When a teammate goes down, everybody else must step up their game but unfortunately tonight nobody stepped up above their normal level of play.

  6. To “I was There” what would you as a Coach would have done differently? You probably was a 13th player on a 12 player rostered team. Dont blame the coach for the lost. CS outplayed their opponents clearly yesterday. Did you want Weslyan coach to put a uniform and run the point? There are so many parents that think they can watch a game and coach from the stands. You disgust me putting a coach down when a team is losing. Coach Gatling is a good coach and deserve better!

  7. I wasn’t at the game and I didn’t see the game but as a coach your team has to have a fire and competitive nature. Here’s the simple way to solve the problem, you find the kid(s) that aren’t playing hard and you sit them on the bench. You play with guys that have that fire even if they’re not as good and you still lose. You want to lose with the kids that are giving you everything. And that’ll set the tone for the rest of your games. If that doesn’t work for the kids you sit out then you can always remove them from the team, have a discussion, put them on the 2nd team in practice. This has to be a consistent thing all year so if that isn’t fixed by now, I’m willing to say that it’ll probably happen again. To Ballin, you don’t have to defend a coach, we hear so much in a season that we become immune to what other people write/say. Most people don’t realize how many decisions you have to make during the course of a game in only a split second.

  8. Pat Kahny last year didn’t quit coaching like Gat did when Quincy Miller went down and it was left up to Duece and Ike.

I hope Montay gets well soon – very good player!

  9. Don’t sleep on Carelock…he played great!! He is not a scorer but he is great defensively. He played with heart. Pinson and Carelock were the best players on the court yesterday. Richmond just had an off game but there is no mistaking his value as the pg. Wes has a dynamite squad and heart isn’t something you can teach. That’s the one factor that boys and girls alike must have to play at a higher level. So many parents/players think just because their child is a great scorer, have all the razzle dazzle as a point guard they are bound to go to the next level. Popular misconception….you have to heart. Being fragile physically and mentally will leave you left behind no matter how good you are.

  10. What’s up with all these Wesleyan folks throwing their players under the bus? Their coach does it in the newspaper every time they lose a ball game, and now people immediately jump on here to do the same thing. Wesleyan didn’t lose yesterday because of lack of effort, their kids played hard. They lost because they couldn’t do anything offensively except for shoot 3’s. It is not always the players’ fault when they lose, and the coach’s job well done when they win. It should be the other way around. They have a good ball club and their kids shouldn’t be blamed anytime something goes bad.

  11. Wesleyan needs their soccer coach to talk to their basketball coach and/or team. That soccer team — a nationally ranked state champion — never lacked for heart or focus. It’s amazing how different the school’s soccer team is from the school’s basketball team in terms of “getting it” when it comes to a team sport and what needs to be done TO GET THE JOB DONE.

  12. At least WES is on the radar of the general public. No matter what you want to say about the coach or these players, the reality is that they are making the headlines whether they win or lose. WES had its day back in the 80’s but the program was an after thought for many years. The girls program is off the radar. The bottomline is that you must have talent to even be in the conversation. Without talent, a Christ School would beat you by 30-40 every night of the week. Hopefully the WES fan base understands how important it is to support not only your players but the coachs, the adm at the school and even the businesses that support the program. Without the right coach, these players would not be here, stay here or keep coming here. These players came to WES because they have had a relationship with the coach on some level or with other players on some level. Don’t let WES turn into what apparent WestChester will become within the next year or two. I have heard that WestChester is not supporting the restocking of the boys program with players like Quincy, Duece or Ike. They are not putting any real resources into the girls program either. WES is more centrally located then WestChester or even HP Christian which means they can draw easier from High Point, Greensboro or even forsyth county than WestChester or HP Christian. WES – you better support your boys and girls basketball program while you have the opportunity because you could start going backward similar to what is happening at WestChester and what WES looked like 5+ years ago.

  13. You may have a good percentage of the population that would prefer that the basketball program returns to the way it was. That may be the situation at WCDS.

  14. If you would go to one of Wesleyan basketball practice you would see the problem is the coach. He does not give the players the tools to succeed. His practice is nothing but a glorified scrimmage with him stopping from time to time and making comments. College coaches have gone to his practice and left with the sense that he did not know what he was doing. I do understand the kids must take some blame but if you know basketball you can see the team is not a well coached team. They lack discipline and that starts with the coach. If you give that team to Coach Freddy or even Coach at HPC you would see them win more games. The coach must be looking for college jobs because he does not support his team in the media but constantly rolls the bus over them to give the perception it is the players and not the coach. Just look at his coaching experience. Do you remember Veritas and the talent he had but they underachieved because of his coaching. I do not want to beat up on coach Kieth Gatlin because I believe he would make a great Asst. college coach somewhere. He knows how to make kids better in workouts but not as a coach. He is a good man but just a suspect coach.
