The Championship game of the Peidmont Triad 4A Conference Tournament pitted the Cowboys of Southwest versus the Eagles of East Forsyth. These conference foes split the regular season series and this time around the conference title was at stake. Last season the Cowboys fell in the title game, could the Cowboys make it over the hump and win it all this year? From the opening tip both teams traded baskets. Southwest’s Jordan Hanner came out extremely hot, scoring 17 points in the first frame as southwest held a 27-18 lead. The Eagles scored first to open the second frame, and in transition Hanner came down and made a layup while drawing a foul as he eclipsed the 1000 point mark for his short career. The play put the lead out to 30-20, and from there Southwest began to pull away going up by as many as 16 with 3 minutes to play. The Eagles weren’t going down without a fight as they had a flurry of baskets to make it 46-35 going into the half. The third quarter started with the Cowboys extending the lead back out, but once again the Eagles fought it back and ultimately the frame was played evenly as it ended with Southwest up 63-52. The first four minutes of the final frame going blow for blow. As the time wore on the Eagles began scrambling but the Cowboys were able to keep it out of their hands and fought them off with a 82-67 victory to seal the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference Tournament Championship. East Forsyth was lead by Drew Cone and Craig Hinton with 14 points apiece. Southwest was lead by Jordan Hanner (31) and Brandon Clyburn’s second straight double double (22 Pts, 11 Rebs).
