GC Women’s Lacrosse Falls to York (Pa.)

Senior Melissa Gallaher had two goals and two assists, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a strong York team, as The Pride fell, 17-5. Greensboro will look to rebound from their season opening loss on Wednesday, when they travel to take on cross-town rival Guilford at 4:00 p.m.

The Pride fell behind early, but Gallaher took advatange of a man-up situation to tie the game at one a piece less than four minutes into the game. Thirty second later, Kayla Gonzalez gave The Pride a 2-1 lead, this time assisted by Gallaher. York would counter quickly, however, scoring five straight to take a 6-2 lead.

Greensboro refused to knuckle under and made a valiant push to get back in the game late in the first half. Gallaher picked up her second assist, this time finding Katie Sporing at the six minute mark. Brittany Ziobro took advantage of another man up situation to pull The Pride within two, but York scored again with 1:55 remaining and took a 7-5 lead into the half.

Pride fans had little to cheer for in the second half, as York scored nine in a row to open the half. Gallaher gave Greensboro a consolation goal with 11:12 showing in the game on a free position shot, but it did little to change The Pride’s fortunes.

Kendra Allbritton won ten draw controls for Greensboro and Gallaher led The Pride with four ground balls, four shots on target, two assists and two goals. Tierra Lyles played then entire game in goal and made four saves.
