Ragsdale wasted little time in taking command of the road game against
Central Davidson on Tuesday. After Colin Lipke coaxed a one out walk,
senior Mitch Carstens took the first pitch he saw out of the park in left
center field to put the Tigers up 2 – 0. Matt Horkey followed with a
single and went to third on Ceasar Taejo’s double. Horkey scored on a Joe
Pantuso ground out and Ragsdale had taken a 3 – 0 first inning lead.

Sophomore Avery Hodges got his first varsity start on the mound for the
Tigers and he pitched into the sixth inning to pick up the win. Over his
first five innings of work, Hodges only gave up 2 hits, 0 runs and struck
out. In the top of the sixth, Hodges had run out of gas and gave up three
consecutive singles as Central scored their first run of the night with
Dillon Hampton getting the RBI single. Sophomore Tim Ambrosa came on in
relief and with the aid of a caught stealing, got out of the inning without
any further damage. Sophomore Kennan Lynn pitched the seventh and recorded
two strikeouts to wrap up the game and the 7 – 1 victory.

Mitch Carstens was 3 for 4 with the HR, a double and a single with 3 RBI’s.
Matt Horkey went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a walk. Joe Pantuso went 1
for 2 with a double and 2 RBI’s while Ben Fischer had a 1 for 4 night with a
double, 2 runs scored, an RBI and 2 stolen bases.

Central Davidson starter Andrew Everhart went 5 innings, giving up 8 hits
and 6 earned runs to take the loss. Kade Roach was 2 for 3 for the
Spartans.

It was the season opener for Central Davidson while Ragsdale improves to 2 –
0.
