GC Women’s Lacrosse Beats LaGrange 19-2

The Pride women’s lacrosse team raced out in front early and beat LaGrange on Sunday, 19-2. Greensboro outscored the Panthers 13-1 in the first half and 6-1 in the second to earn its second straight win.

The Pride took a 4-0 lead less than six minutes into the contest following two goals apiece by Melissa Gallaher and Brittany Ziobro. After the Panthers netted their lone goal of the half, Greensboro rolled to the break with nine unanswered goals. Gallaher, Ziobro, Kayla Gonzalez and Nadya Fedun each scored two goals during the 9-0 run.

LaGrange opened the second half with its final goal of the day to cut the score to 13-2. Ziobro pushed the margin back to 12, again finding the net for The Pride at the 25:10 mark. Greensboro would tally the final six goals of the game – with Fedun adding one more and Jackie Farrell contributing two – to cruise comfortably to the 19-2 final.

Ziobro led The Pride with five goals and four assists. Gallaher finished with four goals and two assists while Fedun recorded three goals and three assists. Tierra Lyles picked up the win in goal, making four saves during the course of the game.

Greensboro dominated the shot category, 38-6, and picked up 17 ground balls compared to seven for the Panthers. The Pride made good on all six of their clear attempts and converted 3-7 of their free position shots. Greensboro also won 16 of 23 draw controls.

The Pride are now 2-2 on the season after picking up back-to-back weekend wins. Greensboro will be back in action next weekend, hosting Christopher Newport at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Bridgewater at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
