Women’s Lacrosse Final – Shenandoah 8, Guilford 7

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Samantha Sisson scored with 5.2 seconds left in regulation to give visiting Shenandoah University an 8-7 lacrosse win at Guilford College Sunday afternoon.

The Hornets (3-1) took a 3-0 halftime lead before Guilford (3-2) rallied to tie the game at 4-4 on an E’leyna Garcia goal 5:19 into the second half.

Shenandoah’s Corinne Kosmowski scored three of her team-high four goals in the second half, including an unassisted tally with 6:42 left that gave the Hornets a 7-5 lead.

After Sarah Bradburd scored with 3:41 left to make it a 7-6 contest, Eleanora Keene took a feed from Garcia and knotted the game at 7-7 with 1:58 left. The Quakers won the ensuing draw and Lily Colley fired off a shot, but it was knocked down and Shenandoah goalie Ashley Cross collected the loose ball.

The Hornets quickly cleared the ball into the offensive zone where after a couple Guilford fouls, Sisson picked up a loose ball and drove to the goal for her second goal of the game.

Kosmowski scored a game-high four goals for Shenandoah, which will join Guilford in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) next season.. Sisson finished with two goals and an assist, plus four draw controls. Cross made 10 saves in goal, six in the first half, which kept the Quakers scoreless.

Garcia paced the Quakers’ offense with three goals and an assist. Keene scored twice and Lily Colley added a goal and an assist. Guilford goalie Liza Mettler made
seven saves.

Now 2-2 in one-goal games this season, Guilford returns to action March 17 at Bridgewater College in the Quakers’ ODAC opener.
