College Football News – Guilford Announces First Group of 2012 Recruits:Tyler Campbell(NWG), Tyler Hunt(Eastern Guilford), Aaron Quate(HPCA) and Brian Spain(Page) will be Quakers

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the intention of nine incoming students to play football for the Quakers. All nine students have made their deposit to the college and will enroll for classes beginning in August. They make up part of Rusiewicz’s second recruiting class at Guilford since he took over the Quakers’ program in 2011.

Tyler Campbell (Summerfield, N.C.) lettered three years under coach Joe Woodruff at Northwest Guilford High School. The 6-0, 260-pound center was a First Team All-Piedmont Triad 4A Conference selection and served as team captain. In 2010, he was an honorable mention all-conference pick and won the Vikings’ Coaches Award. Campbell was Northwest Guilford’s nominee for the Corrigan-Faircloth Scholarship sponsored by the National Football Foundation. He helped his team to conference championships in 2010 and 2011.

Chris Campolieta (Charlotte, N.C.) lettered two years under coach Randy Long at Providence High School. The 6-0, 170-pound wide receiver also lettered one year in track and part of the school’s 4×400 relay team that qualified for the state regional championship. He continues the family tradition of his father, Michael Campolieta, and uncle, Len Campolieta, who played college football at Boston College and Syracuse University, respectively.

Brendon Fisher (Severna Park, Md.) lettered under coach Mike Price at Severna Park High School. The 6-0, 220-pound linebacker/defensive lineman qualified for the school’s honor roll. Fisher also played lacrosse and contributed to Severna Park’s 2010 state championship team. He participated in his school’s leadership institute and was a Minds in Motion Student-Athlete Award winner. One of his cousins is actor Sean Penn.

JerMario Gooch (Raleigh, N.C.) lettered two years under coach Robert Senseney at Knightdale High School. The 5-8, 155-pound cornerback and kick returner led his team with seven interceptions in 2011 and was a two-time All- Greater Neuse River Conference selection. The academic all-conference honoree also lettered in baseball.

Tyler Hunt (Gibsonville, N.C.) lettered three times under coach Scott Loosemore at Eastern Guilford High School. The 6-2, 170-pound punter/ kicker was a three-time Mid-State 3A Conference punter. He was also an honorable mention All-Area punter according to the Greensboro News and Record in 2011 and a Burlington Times First Team selection in 2011 All-Region. The academic all-conference honoree also played baseball and wrestled. Hunt is an Eagle Scout and member of the National Honor Society.

Denadre’ Parker (Clayton, N.C.) lettered under coach Gary Fowler at Clayton High School. The 6-0, 185-pound running back/punter/kick returner was a 2011 All-Greater Neuse River Conference selection and the league’s Special Teams Player of the Year. The four-time all academic letterman also lettered in track.

Dante’ Paul (Burlington, N.C.) lettered three years under coach Steve Johnson at Hugh M. Cummings High School. The 6-0, 290-pound offensive lineman led his team to consecutive Mid-State 2A Conference championships. Paul was a two-time all-region and all-conference selection who won his team’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award. He also lettered as a thrower on the track and field team. Paul was a member of the National Honor Society and the Distributive Education Club of America.

Aaron Quate (Julian, N.C.) lettered three years under coach Steve Lecher at High Point Christian Academy (HPCA). The 6-2, 182-pound safety/receiver was the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2010. In 2011, Quate won HPCA’s Leadership/ Christian Character Award. He was also a member of the National Honor Society and also served as Beta Club President.

Brian Spain (Greensboro, N.C.) lettered two years under coach Kevin Gillespie at Page High School in Greensboro, N.C. The 6-2, 180-pound wide receiver helped his team to the 2011 4AA state championship. Spain also lettered two years in basketball and contributed to the Pirates’ consecutive Metro 4A Conference titles in 2011 and 2012. Spain was also a member of the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Young Life.

Guilford opens the 2012 season Sept. 1 versus Greensboro College in the annual Gate City Soup Bowl.

  1. Aaron Quate will be a great addition to the Quakers Football Program. He is a great player who loves the game and a very nice young man too. Can’t wait to watch him play
