Krecicki’s Walk-Off Leads GC Baseball Past NC Wesleyan in Extras

Jon Krecicki’s RBI walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th inning gave The Pride baseball team a weekend sweep of North Carolina Wesleyan.

Greensboro led 3-0 after eight innings but were forced to go to extra innings after the Bishops tied the score with three two-out runs in the ninth. After two scorless innings, North Carolina Wesleyan went on top for the first time with a run in the top of the 12th.

Steven Pfeiffer was hit by a pitch to give The Pride a baserunner to open the bottom of the 12th. The next two Greensboro hitters flew out, leaving Greensboro with one out to work with.

Austin Catherina seized the moment, with an RBI double to the left field gap that evened the score at 3-3. Krecicki came through in the next at-bat, with a single under the diving glove of the first baseman that brought Catherina home and sent the War Memorial Stadium crowd into a frenzy.

Matthew Park put The Pride on the board in this one, doubling home Pfeiffer for the first run of the day in the fourth inning. Greensboro tacked on two more runs in the sixth and appeared to be in control before the late Bishop rally.

Michael Cobb put together a gem on the mound, going eight innings while giving up only four hits. Brian Robbett earned the win, pitching all three of the extra frames.

The Pride offense concluded the day with eight hits. Bill Wooding and Matthew Parker each recorded a team high two hits.

With the win, Greensboro improves to 19-11 overall and 5-5 in the USA South. The Pride will hit the road on Monday to face Emory & Henry for a 3 p.m. match-up.
