I was telling you yesterday, that I felt as if SEG could win it all and they did, on both the boys and girls sides, at the Guilford County Track and Field Meet held at Northern Guilford…..
I mentioned Garbrielle Gray from High Point Central and she was a winner, Shemiah Brooks of SWG was one of our picks and she won the triple jump and back to Gray she claimed the 200 meters….One of the state’s top runners in mid-to-long distances, Alyssa Torres took wins in the 800 and 1600 meter runs….State meet hopefuls Dejah Hayes and Breanna Warren from Western Guilford were also winners in the long jump and discus respectively…..
On the boys side SEG was very strong, as we predicted, with Hezekiah Ward buring it up in the hurdles for the Falcons, on Saturday….We called for a very strong showing from Xavier Jones of Ragsdale and he was right there like I said he would be, in the 200 and 400 meters….TJ Logan(NG) took off and won the 100….Carl Walton of NWG is fixture in the 800 meters and he took it home again this year….Jimmy Hollingsworth, from Northern, almost owns the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs for the boys and has both championship medals with him today….
Matt Colvin, from Southern Guilford, is still the man in the triple jump and should be doing that in college next year, for Howard University….Will Bennett, has been the old Mr. Reliable for a while now, in the high jump and he went 6’5 to win again, on Saturday at Northern….I think current Page basketball coach Robert Kent was high jumping 6’4 or 6’5 back in high school at WG….Footballer Winston Craig was the field-event star for the Ragsdale Tigers on Saturday, with wins in the Shot Put and Discus….Right at 50 feet for Craig in the shot and at 140 feet in the disc and that’s a good days work, at the track….Thomas Popkek, whose mom used to be the distance coach at Ragsdale, he won the pole vault for the boys and Trey Jones of SEG won the long jump…..
Turned out to be a decent day for Track and Field on Saturday at Northern and we were on the money with most of our picks prior to the races…..
