College Women’s Lacrosse Final – #15 Washington and Lee 16, Guilford 4

LEXINGTON, Va. – Allie Shearin scored three goals and two assists in Washington and Lee University’s 16-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win over Guilford College.

The Generals (12-3, 8-0 ODAC) are ranked 15th in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Poll.

Guilford’s E’leyna Garcia scored back-to-back goals midway through the first half that drew the Quakers (9-6, 7-2 ODAC) to within 3-2. Washington and Lee’s Christina Benedetti answered with consecutive tallies, which triggered a 5-0 Generals’ run to end the half.

Garcia scored the first goal of the second half followed by a Maddie McKaig goal for the Generals. Guilford’s Summer Frazier converted a Lily Colley pass to pull the Quakers to within 9-4, but Washington and Lee closed the game on a 7-0 run.

Benedetti, one of six Generals with at least two goals, finished with three points, as did McKaig. Washington and Lee enjoyed a 36-14 edge in shots and forced 14 of Guilford’s 27 turnovers in the game. Cara Mulligan made five saves in goal.

Garcia’s three goals led the Quakers. Goaltender Liza Mettler recorded 13 saves.

Guilford closes the regular season Saturday (4/21) against Randolph College.
