*****Note:Coach Tina Gunn did not play for Kay Yow at Eastern Guilford….She played for current N.C. State athletic director Debbie Yow….Kay Yow coached at Allen Jay High School, then at Elon and then on to N.C. State…..Coach Gunn is probably the most successful basketball ooach in Eastern Guilford history and she will have a chance to do the same thing at Grimsley….Eddie Flinchum had much success with the girl’s teams at old Gibsonville High School…..Coach Gunn had Tasha Huntley pouring in 33 pts.-plus in those games with EG at UNCG and then Miranda Jenkins and Carpricia Smalls picked up the pace and last year it was ‘Little Morgan’ going wild over at Northeast Guilford, where she broke the three-point shooting barrier…..Success fits the Gunn name and that same success will now find it’s way on to the Grimsley High School campus…..*****

  1. first former head football coach goes to grimsley as offensive coordinator, now head lady’s basketball coach assumes same position at grimsley. traded in royal blue for dark blue. good luck to both!

  2. This entered my mind this morning and I thought she might be set to take that job and she is a perfect fit for that challenge

  3. One of the best coaches in this area that was never really recoginized for it. Her resume has spoken for itself over time. She has produced some of the most effective players in this area and tends to do a great job with what she has. Grimsley is very forunate to have her on their sidelines.

  4. I noticed that through out the years that Eastern Guilford always had very prolific scorers that also won. Boy, I am glad that she is coming to Grimsley.

  5. One of the best coaches I have witnessed at the high school level at any sport. Im not sure Grimsley truely knows how good of a coach and person they are getting. Expect the program to be on top of the county for many years to come!

  7. Once Coach Gunn get her system in place at Grimsley, you will not see the same Grimsley team that has been the doormat in the conference. This team will be more organized and will play smart type of basketball. What she did with that team in 2011 that went 23-6 was amazing. At Grimsley she will have a larger base to work with and help make that conference just a little more interesting.

  8. What is that 4 BB coaches in 5 years. Maybe this one(who looks to be a good hire can stay). I would tell her good luck and duck and cover

  9. They don’t usually announce the other candidates, just the person that got hired for the job….I’m sure there were other candidates for this job and I know for a fact, that Coach Gunn will give it her best shot…She will do fine….But the players better be ready to get to work….

  10. I will tell you one thing she won’t be able to hide in that little 3A conference anymore. She gonna have to play some KILLERS now!! This will indeed be interesting!!!!

  11. she did not hide in that little 3A conference. most of the time they dominated and lived at the top. in time, grimsley will become one of the KILLERS. the problem in wildcat country is how in the world are they going to get someone to come in and maintain what they have.

  12. Doc

Are you insinuating that she did not have players that could not have played for any team in this area? Or are you saying that any player in the 4A Conference in this area could have played for Eastern and would have been just as productive over time?

  13. I would be shocked if Coach Gunn doesn’t go at least .500 in her first year at Grimsley….
