UNCG Baseball Coach Mike Gaski’s Contract Not Being Renewed

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG baseball coach Mike Gaski’s contract will not be renewed when it expires on June 30, Director of Athletics Kim Record announced Saturday.

Gaski, the only coach in the history of UNCG’s baseball program, finishes his UNCG career with a 657-540-1 record in 22 years at the helm. He was a four-time conference coach of the year and led the Spartans to NCAA regional appearances in 1994 and 1997.

He led UNCG to a 25-27 overall record this season with a 10-20 Southern Conference mark.

“Making leadership changes is always difficult, but considering the needs of our student-athletes and the long-term success of the program is what has to be at the core of any decision I make,” Record said. “Mike Gaski will always be considered the architect of this program, and few people will ever fully understand the depth of his commitment to and for UNCG baseball. I admire and respect coach Gaski’s vision. It’s not often that someone is able to build a program from scratch and watch it grow over a 20-year period. I respect and admire what he’s done.”

A national search for Gaski’s replacement will begin immediately.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We reported this earlier; but retracted it when it was announced that the UNC-G Softball Coach’s Contract was not being renewed.

  1. Is Kim Record the new Debbie Yow of ADs ? Debbie Yow has gotten a lot of attention over her career for firing coaches and making statements about win or leave. It appears Kim Record is the real AD with the gusts to make changes. I don’t know anything about the UNCG situation but why didn’t UNCG get rid of Mike Dement with the men’s basketball earlier if they are willing to get rid of all of these coaches lately. Since UNCG is willing to change so many coaches, maybe they will final start promoting their programs, coaches and teams within the community. They promoted the boys basketball coach a lot after he starting winning but I still don’t know anything about the girls basketball coaches or any other teams or coaches at UNCG.
