Guilford’s Grosso Named Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Southwestern

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head women’s lacrosse coach Matthew Grosso resigned his position after eight seasons to become the head women’s lacrosse coach at Southwestern University. The Georgetown, Texas, school is adding women’s lacrosse and will begin varsity play in the spring of 2014.

Grosso leaves Guilford as its winningest and longest tenured women’s lacrosse mentor. The Quakers posted a 56-75 record in his eight years, including a school record-setting 11-7 mark in 2012. Grosso captured the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Coach of the Year Award this spring after leading Guilford to a share of second place in the regular-season standings and the Quakers’ first ODAC Tournament berth since 1992. He took the Quakers to seven ODAC Tournaments and coached 20 students to all-conference recognition a combined 31 times.

A search for Grosso’s replacement is underway. The new coach will be the 10th in school history and is slated to inherit 12 letter winners from the 2012 team, including six starters and four All-ODAC honorees.
