Looking over the High School Football games for this Friday night

Here is a ranking of importance for the high school football games for this Friday night and they are all important, it will be the first game of the season for the teams, but here is a look at how they might just stack up on the “Big Scale’, with those at the top being the “Biggies” that many fans are pointing to….(Northern Guilford-OPEN)

High Point Central vs. High Point Andrews….at Simeon Stadium….Could be a sell-out….Fans will be lining up early for this one, with Rubin Crosby(HPC) possibly the top player on the field, on this night….

Davie County at Page…Defending 4-AA Champion at Home, facing the War Eagles…I remember a game a few years back, when the War Eagles came into to Marion Kirby Stadium and stole one in OT, when Page had been up by 3 TD’s in the first half….I think Will Newman was the QB back then and this will be the first game for Page without James Summers, the main man the past three seasons and the Jordan Putnam era will begin….Page will need a steady RB to take some of the pressure off of Putnam, but I feel Putnam can handle it and he will succeed….

Grimsley at Ragsdale….Can Grimsley get some offense going against the Ragsdale defense led by Duncan Sparks and Winston Craig and can the Grimsley defense, slow down the Ragsdale offense led by Colson Herndon…Early on, Herndon looks very confident back there…Tiger RB’s Eleazer, Jones and Gaither, along with slot-man Brandon Walker, can move real quick…Grimsley has big ‘O’ line, but young…

Western Guilford at Northeast Guilford….NEG is real fast as they get out on the edge, but WG has QB Reid Flippin, WR’s Dorian Anderson and Kedish Edwards, plus RB/DB Trey Miller and that is a good group of athletes….NEG with QB Tyrone Hammer can put points up, but for both teams, staying healthy will be the key….

Smith at Northwest Guilford….First play of the game in this one last year, and it wasn’t even the first play from scrimmage, but on the opening kickoff, Reid Baxter(NWG) takes it back all the way 89 yards for a TD and Smith never recovered…Smith is a better team this year from what we are hearing, but NWG has not lost a thing, still loaded with RB’s in that ‘Triple-Option’ and they can run, run, run…..New stadium at NWG, so the Vikings should be pumped for that too….Will be interesting to see what Coach Brewington and Eagles bring to the table this season…

Southern Durham at Dudley….Brand new stadium at Dudley too and it ought to be a real big night at Tarpley on Friday evening….Albert McClain is starting to get soome well-deserved pub and Chris Register is set to be a defensive leader along with ‘Big A’…..The Moseleys in the backfield will carry the load for the Panthers and QB Hayes is now a senior leader….Also interested to see how the young kicker, Elijah Harris is doing for Dudley….

Southeast Guilford at Southwest Guilford….SEG has that huge offensive line and they have Jamal Petty at RB and that could really spell a long night for SWG….One advantage for SWG that we have to take into consideration, is the fact that new SWG defensive coordinator Chuck Doak was at SEG for sevearl years and he knows the SEG Falcon offense, inside and out…We will see if that helps the Cowboys in their attampts to stop the Falcons….Conventional wisdom tells us that Petty will still run for 200-plus yards and at least 2-3 TDs’…

Eastern Guilford at Southern Guilford…..New system to some degree at Eastern with new coach David Hines, but they will still have to contend with Storm RB Malik Moseley, one of the Top 25 runningbacks in the state…..The EG Wildcat defense has to find a way to get the ball to their QG Heath Justice, but they must first get Moseley and Southern’s offense off of the field and that won’t be easy…..

Village Christian at High Point Christian on Saturday August 18….Kind of wait and see on HPCA, but Quentin Chavis will do big things from his QB spot, it just remains to be seen if that alone, will be enough to carry the Cougars…..

  1. Yes and I changed that back to Southern Durham….I have seen that game listed as everything from Southern Guilford, to Durham Jordan to Southern Alamance and I have back now as Southern Durham….Have had it as Southern Durham pretty all the time and somebody must have said something about Michael Jordan right before I wrote this mornning…

  2. You put me and Michael together and that’s a pretty tough combination….Durham/Jordan….I still like my new company name better, as in Durham Horse.com….Company motto is ‘Run like a horse, eat like a horse” and remember, “There is no Finish Line”……

  3. Smith will have similarities to last years team. Don’t expect too much of a difference. The only teams they’ll beat in the non-conference schedule is maybe Andrews and NEG. The conference is rough and you have to play EVERY Friday night. I can only see them beating Western, and Grimsley. Finishing the season 4-6. Smith is young, young, YOUNG!
