Jim Modlin is in the stands and Jordan Stowe on the field. We have scores and pictures later.

Overtime -Final

High Point Central – 20

  1. following on Twitter; Page intercepted a pass and returned it to HPC’s 27 yard line, but apparently did not score…I think it’s still tied.

  2. Final: HPC 20 Page 14

Page has GOT to get an offense.

Special teams still a weakness, apparently. A blocked field goal in OT is a recipie for losing.

    Congrats to HPC.

  3. Page may be struggling right now but they have one heck of a QB. Jordan Putnam is an athlete, and a great leader.

  4. I tip my hat to HPC, Im man enough to congratulate the better team. Good luck the rest of the season.

  5. Two good teams battled at Simeon tonight. Defenses dominated. After scoreless 1st qtr, HPC got on the board at 11:20 of 2nd with a 31 yard pass from Justin Johnson to Jamale Mckiver. Hit him in stride at the goal line.

After Central’s Tyler Wilson picked off a Puntam pass on a bad throw, the Bison went up 14 – 0 on an 8 yard pass from Johnson to Juwan Foggie on a slant across the middle.

Page scored to cut the lead to 14 – 7 with 2:43 left in the half on an AJ Capel 4 yard run. The TD was set up when Capel went off right tackle 30 yards to set up the first and goal.

The Page defense took over in the second half and completely shut down the Bison offense. Page threatened numerous times, driving downfield in the third before Kevin Green intercepted Putnam at the 10 yard line to halt a drive. When the defense forced a punt after the interception giving the Page offense a short field, they wnet 35 yards and scored on a 3 yard run by Capel. The TD tying up the game at 14 was set up by a Putnam to Cahlil Grant 20 yard pass play on 3rd and 5 that gave them a first down at the 11.

Neither team could score in the fourth although HP Central did finally pick up their first first down of the second half with 4:38 left in the fourth quarter. Page had an illegal procedure penalty to wipe out a 40 yard pass that would have put them at the Bison 28. Page also moved down to the 14 yard line and completed a pass for a first and goal only to have it wiped out by a holding penalty.

In overtime, the Pirates had the first possession and after three consecutive incomplete passes, they attempted a 27 yard field goal. A snap that was a little wide right threw off the timing and the kick was blocked. The Bison then lost 2 yards on their first snap, had an incomplete pass and on third down Justin Johnson went around right end and barrelled his way into the end zone for the winning TD.

  6. No migraines here, well played game that went into OT,dont think anyone can talk samck after that game, seriously? be a man!

  7. I loving the fact that a couple of guys that had Page winning is showing some respect now. Hard fought battle by HPC to over the turnovers & penalties. I knew Page wouldn’t lay down & made some great plays in this game. Congrats to Will Johnson#15 kicking a couple touch backs, one which went to back of the end zone. HPC moves to 3-0 to travel to Greensboro next week to face a tough Grimsley team. I’m going to celebrate the rest of the night & weekend. Good luck to Page this week.

  8. Mike E. you made a great report of the game details. No blaming players, refs, or coaches. Just letting us know what happened. Keeping it positive is always good. Keep up the good work!

  9. Best player on the field last night was Will Johnson, kicker from HPC. he can punt and kick. He flipped the field several times for HPC. Have not seen him since last year. Very impressed.

  10. Special teams, fundamentals..the little things can make a difference between winning and losing.

  11. Page has lost focus and is having trouble closing games. They should have won last week against Northern and probably could have taken this game with HP Central. They get a very tough Ragsdale club next week and if the coaches don’t do “something” they will be 0-4.

  12. Good points, Ball Coach, Jr.

Two weeks in a row Page’s defense held the opposition to 14 points (during regulation time, 4 quarters). Against, Northern, Page threw a shutout for three quarters. Last night, they completely shut down HPC in the second half according to Mike Ellis.

The Page defense is doing all they can to put the Pirates in a position to win.

Now it’s up to the offense. Unless they find a way to score more than 10 points a game, this team will struggle to reach .500, regardless of how lights out the defense plays.

That’s just the pure, unvarnished, non-Pollyanna facts.
