Allison Gibson Nets Two Goals as Greensboro College Women’s Soccer Beats CNU 3-1

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — Allison Gibson twice found the back of the net as the Greensboro College women’s soccer team knocked off Christopher Newport 3-1 on Friday night. The win snapped a three-game losing streak and gave The Pride a 1-0 start in USA South Conference play.

Gibson opened the scoring in the 34th minute of the game, taking an assist from Melanie Raton to put Greensboro on top 1-0. The one goal lead would hold up heading into the half as neither team broke through during the final 11 minutes.

The Captains wasted little time finding the equalizer in the second half, with Emily O’Reilly providing the tying goal just two minutes in. Gibson had a quick answer for The Pride, though, netting an unassisted goal just 1:49 later to give Greensboro a 2-1 advantage.

Raton added some breathing room in the 78th minute with an unassisted score for the final mark of 3-1.

Christopher Newport held a 17-10 advantage in total shots but only 7-6 in shots on goal. Gibson recorded a game high five shots with three coming on goal. Raton also contributed four shots and two on goal. Shireen Unvala earned the victory in goal, making seven saves in 90:00 complete minutes.

With the win, The Pride improve to 2-3 on the season. Greensboro will welcome cross-town rival Guilford to Pride Field on Monday for a 4 p.m. match.
