Remembering the former coach from ‘Remember the Titans’, Eddie Joyce from Madison, N.C.

Coach Eddie Joyce from Madison, N.C. passed away recently at his home, after spending time in a hospital in Eden, N.C. and Coach Joyce spent many a year on the sidelines at Salem, Virginia, coaching Andrew Lewis High and his 1971 team lost 27-0 in the Group AAA final to T.C. Williams before a crowd of 18,000 at Roanoke’s Victory Stadium, the game that became the basis of the movie “Remember the Titans.”

Coach Joyce coached against the Hilltoppers from E.C. Glass High in Lynchburg, Virginia and he faced the top teams from thoroughout the state of Virginia during his long and prosperous career….He coached Billy Sample, who later spent many years in the Texas Rangers baseball organization….

Coach Joyce was 83 years old when he passed away and he is credited with the building the high school program at Salem, Virginia and making it one of the top high school football programs in the state of Virginia……

  1. I think I remember seeing those Eddie Joyce for sheriff ads a few years back…His name sure rings a bell and I do remember those E.C. Glass football teams from Lynchburg back in the day…Always great football teams…
