High School Hoops for tonight with Marvin Webster Classic and NGFS at GDS

*****Sorry we missed this one earlier…Dudley Panthers and Sam Hunt, at Durham Hillside Hornets tonight and Frank McNeil’s Lady Panthers with Maize, Rouse, Davis, Abraham and Curry should be in action too….*****

Things really get rolling tonight with:
Marvin Webster Memorial Classic Basketball at Smith High School with High Point Andrews vs. Smith (girls)/East Forsyth vs. Ben L. Smith (boys)…All begins at 6pm…*****Also tonight Northern Guilford at Asheboro with both girls and boys’ games.*****

New Garden Friends School Bears at Greensboro Day School(boys) 7pm….Kanayo Obi-Rapu and Bears at Bengals…If Shakyu Smart plays for Bears they have a shot, otherwise gonna be tough, Bengals will run multiple defenses and focus will be on Obi-Rapu…We all remember that Saturday afternoon game in January, earlier this year(2012), when Obi-Rapu hit GDS up for nearly 30 points at NGFS…Day School’s best defender is John ‘JT’ Terry and let’s see who covers Obi-Rapu Jr…..

Also this evening we have:
Eastern Guilford at Southeast Guilford…First game for new EG girls coach Kris Britton and she faces a loaded SEG Falcon team and the Falcons will be very hard to stop…Kenya Hailey, Kara Shutt, Kayla Upshaw, Molly Uffman and other Falcons on board….
Western Guilford at Northeast Guilford….Don’t know much about this new WG girls team and NEG has been working for two years now to get re-loaded and they might be ready…WG-NEG boys ought to be a toss-up…NEG lost a bus load of senior boys off of last year’s team…I thought WG still had Nathan Stutts and what else do the Hornets have?[No Nathan, he has dropped basketball, to focus on football only.]
Southern Alamance at Northwest Guilford…Girls ought to be fun with SA’s Burnette, Boggs and Kelly posing problems for any team that they will play and NWG could have their hands way full early…Looking forward to seeing what Cody Hylton and Kevin Parrish will do for NWG boys and if Cody Hylton doesn’t hit for at least one three-pointer, I will wash your car this Saturday afternoon…Come on Cody, I know you can do it….On that girls game, I’m not trying to sugar-coat it, SA is for real and they are real tough…
Hickory Grove at WesleyanThis game has been postponed until December 1….(Theo Pinsonn was only hitting for just at 9 points per game coming in and I think he goes for 20 or more nest time out….He is ready and waiting to take off and get past those junk defenses and nagging injuries)…
Carolina Home School at Greensboro Day(Girls) 6pm and this game will be over at 6:02pm…
*****Game was over at 5:45, as the Carloina Home School cancelled and will not play the GDS Lady Bengals tonight..JV boys and Varsity boys only tonight at GDS.*****

Caroline Spur might want to move over to Carolina Home School in a player-swap move, for this game only…Rogers and Thorpe, along with Spur, Atkinson and others can rest after halftime and it could get real bad by the end of the first quarter and I may be wrong here and not know what I am talking about, but I am just hitting this on gut feeling…..

  1. Two points, Pinson is just coming off foot surgery and was just cleared to even practice on the 8th of November. He isn’t even starting because of his foot and is seeing fairly limited playing time. And secondly, Wesleyan’s game tonight was postponed until Dec. 1st. Their next game is Monday the 26th against Flora MacDonald at home.

  2. Good points and that is what this forum is for…Thanks for the update….

Look for Theo to open things up on Monday the 26th….

  3. Only the JV and Varsity boys will be playing at GDS tonight. Carolina Home School cancelled the girls game weeks ago. The GDS girls have had 2 teams cancel them from their schedule. Looking to forward to seeing the GDS girls against Wakefield from Raleigh this weekend. Wakefield usually has a very good team and multiple college players on their roster.

  4. New Garden is a lot more than just Obi-Rapu. The kid is terrific but there are others who can bring it if they are healthy and at full force.

  5. Is the Smart kid playing for New Garden or did he have surgery on his back?

    THE ROCK would know……

  6. Good one tonight in Durham. Dudley Panthers @ Durham Hillside. Sam Hunt and the boys will have a tough one tonight.

  7. Western Girls: Brittany Clency left some big shoes to fill but they have the same core group of starters back (besides Brittany) and added 2 freshmen that can contribute immediately. A couple girls are nicked up right now but should be back soon.

  8. Yes, the word is that Smart had some back issues when he was at Thomasville Prep /Brittain Academy /New Hope Prep. Now he’s had surgery and is out until late December or early January. But, I was at NGFS’ first home game last week and saw Isaiah Manderson out of Alpharetta sitting in the stands. I shook his hand and asked who he was here to see. He said, “Just here to support my team. I just transferred here to New Garden. ” I told him him good luck then thought about it…in January, NGFS will have a 6’10” and 6″11″ frontcourt! Yowzers! Combined with Obi Rapu, Cam Williams, and other sharpshooters, it should be fun!
