HPU Men’s Golf Signs Philip Oweida To an NLI for 2013-14

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University men’s golf head coach Greg Flesher announced the signing of Philip Oweida (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Myers Park) to a National Letter of Intent on Thursday. Oweida will join the Panthers in the fall of 2013.

“The addition of Philip Oweida will help our team reach new heights in the coming years,” Flesher said. “Everyone I talked to in my time while recruiting Philip had nothing but great things to say about his character, his work ethic and of course his golf game. He is a winner in all aspects of life and is a great example of the type of individual we wish to have on our team.”

Oweida is ranked 87th nationally among 2600 players in his class by the Junior Golf Scoreboard. He holds a +3.2 handicap and has finished in the top 10 in numerous top tournaments around the country. Oweida shot seven-under and finished fourth at the North and South Junior Championship at Pinehurst. He also finished fifth at the Joe Cheve Invitational and 4th at the AJGA in Bedminster, N.J.

Oweida hasplayed well in local tournaments, finishing fourth at the 2012 NCHSAA State Championship after winning the regional event at Pine Island. He was also the low qualifier among 65 players at the 2012 Charlotte City Amateur.

Oweida plays out of the Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., where he works with PGA Teaching Professional Scott Lefevre.
