GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ricky Pardo went 4-for-6 in Shenandoah University’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) sweep of Guilford College Sunday at McBane Field.
Guilford (7-8, 1-3 ODAC) overcame a 6-0 deficit late in the first game. The Quakers utilized small-ball play in the ninth to score four runs. Down one run in the two-out bottom of the ninth, with the tying run on third and the winning run on first, Justin Pittman awaited his 1-2 pitch. With a called strike three, game one was decided, 6-5 Shenandoah.
The second game began riddled with three Quaker errors in the first inning, Guilford already down 3-0. Shenandoah (9-2, 3-1 ODAC) countered three scoreless innings with five runs in the final three. The Quakers were unable to recover. Shenandoah claimed the nightcap, 9-2.
The Hornets’ Corbin Lucas hit .500 with four RBI. Pinch hitter Billy Arens was 2-for-2 in game two. Nick McMahon (1-2) earned Shenandoah’s first win after 8.1 innings pitched, allowing three earned runs. Michael Scimanico (1-0) claimed the second victory after allowing only one earned run in three innings.
Guilford’s Corey Wallace went 3-for-4 during the first game. Herc Ingles went 3-for-7 with two RBI. Will James (1-2) took the game one loss after 5.2 innings, allowing four earned runs. Lou Trosch evened his record to 1-1 with game two’s loss, allowing three earned runs in 6.2 innings.
The Quakers next play home Tuesday, Mar. 12 at 3:00 p.m. in a nonconference game against Stevenson University at McBane Field.
