FOREST, Va. – Guilford College sophomore Turner Votipka (Nashville, N.C./Nash Central) earned Third Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men’s Tennis recognition according to a vote of the league’s head coaches, the league office announced Thursday. Votipka, the lone Quaker so honored, was recognized for his play at first singles.
Votipka, the Quakers’ captain, recorded a 9-10 overall singles record and was 5-5 in league matches. He led Guilford and ranked fifth in the league in singles wins. Votipka also paced the Quakers in doubles triumphs with a 10-9 overall mark. He paired with senior Ben Nelson (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) to go 5-0 at second doubles, including 4-0 in league contests. Votipka logged a 19-19 combined record (singles and doubles), which led the team.
A 2012 First Team All-ODAC selection at second doubles, Votipka owns a 20-20 career singles mark in two Guilford campaigns and is 21-19 in doubles action.
Coach Dave McCain’s team posted an 8-8 overall record (6-4 ODAC) and shared fifth place in the league’s postseason tournament. McCain may return as many as seven letter winners next season, including Votipka.
