GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Justin Morrison (High Point, N.C./High Point Christian) was recently named to the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate Baseball League’s All-Star Team. The all-star game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. this Thursday, July 11, at North Davidson High School in Welcome, N.C.
Morrison, a rising junior at Guilford, has been the top starting pitcher for the league-leading Kernersville Bulldogs through the first half of the season. The right-hander leads the team with a 4-1 record, 36 strikeouts and a 1.21 earned run average in 34.2 innings over eight appearances, which include six starts. Morrison has walked just nine batters and limits opponents to a .169 batting average in the wood-bat summer league. He ranks second in the eight-team loop in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched. Morrison had a six-inning, no-hit shutout June 22 in Kernersville’s 7-0 win over the Virginia Marlins.
Morrison was a top reliever for the Quakers last spring, appearing in a team-high 19 games. He posted a 1-0 record with one save and a 3.76 ERA. Morrison’s 31 strikeouts led the team. After two college seasons, Morrison has a 6-3 career record with a 5.14 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 30 appearances (8 starts).
Coach Nick Black’s ’02 Quakers posted a 20-18 record last spring and may return as many as 32 letter-winners next season, including Morrison.
