College Lacrosse News – Guilford Team, Students Honored For Academic Excellence

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College seniors Celine De Perlinghi (Wilson, N.C./Oak Park & River Forest (Ill.)) and E’leyna Garcia (Plantation, Fla./Pine Coast Prep) are two of 382 NCAA Division III student-athlete honorees named to the 2013 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll. Honorees were junior or senior letter winners who maintained a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher.

In addition, Guilford was one of 86 schools recognized as an IWLCA Division III Academic Honors Squad, which is comprised of teams that maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher for the 2012-13 academic year.

De Perlinghi is a German major with a business minor. She is a two-time member of the Academic All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) team and was named Third Team All-ODAC last spring for her play as a defender. De Perlinghi is also a six-time member of Guilford’s Student-Athlete Honor Roll and a dean’s list student.

Garcia, a psychology major and dean’s list student, enjoyed the finest women’s lacrosse season in school history last year. She earned Second Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and Third Team All-America recognition from SynapseSports.com in 2013. Garcia also claimed the Quakers’ first ODAC Women Lacrosse Player of the Year Award and was named First Team All-Chesapeake Region after leading Division III with 99 goals in 17 games.

The Quakers had a record-breaking season and finished with a 15-2 overall record (10-0 ODAC). Coach Sarah Lamphier expects 12 letter winners back for the 2014 season.
