College Men’s Soccer Final – Emory 2, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Darion Morgan and Dylan Price scored in Emory University’s 2-0 soccer victory at Guilford College Sunday. The win moved the Eagles’ record to 4-0 this season and dropped Guilford to 1-2-1.

Morgan came off the bench in the first half to score the opening goal. Jeffrey Cochran’s long throw in deflected off of some players in front of the Quakers’ goal and back out to Morgan, who blasted the ball past keeper Marko Mandalinic from 12 yards out. The goal in the 42nd minute spotted the visitors to a 1-0 halftime lead.

The Eagles controlled play for most of the second half and put consecutive shots off the post midway through the period. Mandalinic and the Quakers’ defense helped Guilford stay in the match, but Emory added an insurance goal in the 88th minute when Cochran’s long pass sprung scoring leader Dylan Price for a breakaway goal, his team-leading fourth of the year.

The Eagles held a 21-5 edge in shots and had nine of the game’s 13 corner kicks. Abe Hannigan made two saves for his second shutout of the season. Mandalinic had seven stops for Guilford.

The Quakers open Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Saturday (9/14) at Shenandoah University.
