ROCKY MOUNT, NC—The Greensboro College Pride women’s soccer team found the win column in USA South play on Sunday by defeating NC Wesleyan by a final score of 2-0.
The Pride got on the board early in the first half, when Tiffany Walters scored her second goal of the season in the 10th minute of play. Walters beat The Bishops defender to left and put the ball in the right pocket of the goal to give Greensboro a 1-0 lead. The score remained the same for the rest of the first half of play.
After the break, Greensboro kept the pressure going on the Wesleyan defense. Neither team could find an open hole until Melanie Raton collected a cross from T’Keyah Henry, and put the one time in the net to give The Pride a 2-0 lead.
Greensboro would out shoot The Bishops in the game 10-7 and held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. Jessica Thatcher would pick up the win in goal making two saves in the game.
After the game, Coach Spooner said, “I am very happy with the way our group played today; they kept fighting the whole way and held on to the very end.”
With the win, The Pride will move to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in USA South play. The Pride women’s soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday, October 2nd when they welcome The Cougars of Averett University to Pride Field. Game time for that game is set for 4:00 pm.
