East Carolina beat North Carolina bad on Saturday, but was it this bad???

The final was ECU 55, UNC 31 on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill, and it was bad, but how bad was it???

Was it this bad?
No matter what happens now, Carolina’s season is in ruins. ECU gets the Heels at home next year. But after Saturday, UNC might not ever want to play the Pirates again.

More from Ed Hardin at the N&R in the Pirates win over the Tar Heels in Kenan Stadium:

ECU has a better football team than North Carolina, and no one imagined that before Saturday. A crowd of 60,000 came to Kenan like something out of time, with cars streaming into Chapel Hill from Greenville and all the little towns east of I-95, just as they had done all those years ago when ECU was an upstart independent begging for days like this.

From the very beginning, you could feel the energy from one sideline and the vacuum on the other.

“We went into the game saying we were going to at least stop the pass and make them run the football,” Fedora said. “Well, we didn’t do either. They ran it at will and threw it at will. I know this, you’ve got to play the game with passion, you’ve got to play with enthusiasm, you’ve got to play with energy, no matter what happens.”

  1. While sitting in our little corner section of Kenan Stadium in the 30 minutes leading up to kickoff, I was inunadated with “friends” texting me about how ECU was going to be “embarrased” by the heels. By halftime, all the texts had stopped and all these “friends” had gone dark as they had headed for the exits. What I group of “fair weather fans” the Heels have. In Greenville, we stay till the end regardless of if we are winning or losing. I guess all the “cheating” has finally worn them down.

  2. I didn’t get to watch the game but I did have the pleasure of listening to the UNC-CH radio broadcast. Great game and WIN for the Pirates! The Hokies get there turn this Saturday.

  3. If this Coach cant beat ECU then he is not the Coach we need. Time to look for that big time COACH for tarheel football.

  4. I think Carolina and State should continue to play ECU at least on a reasonably consistant basis. Home and Home too! As a UNC fan I would rather lose occasionally to ECU (12-3-1 overall) than beat Liberty and Elon.

Carolina Fan: You do know The Heels won last year. The guy is 1 season and 4 games into his career and on probation as well. Give it a rest.
