from the Charlotte Observer and Herb White, in what the Observer was a calling a ‘Showcase Game’ down in Charlotte last night…..www.charlotteobserver.com

Northside (3-0) was more than good enough, particularly during a second-quarter run in which the Knights reeled off a 12-0 uprising to turn a 23-18 deficit 3 minutes, 23 seconds before halftime into a seven-point advantage at intermission.

Consecutive baskets by Charlotte commit Keyshawn Woods (game-high 22 points) pushed Northside ahead for good and the Knights held Wesleyan’s top three scorers, North Carolina commit Theo Pinson, Houston recruit JaQuel Richmond and Donovan Gilmore (College of Charleston) to 13 points between them. Pinson finished with 21 points and Gilmore added 14.

“That was the game,” Trojans coach Keith Gatlin said. “We go up 23-18, Northside comes back and goes on that run, and we never could recover. But that’s a tribute to Northside. They played very well.”

  1. Would love to see Wesleyan and Northside play another game at Wesleyan. Maybe next year. McGuinness did get the Gardner kid from GDS and Wilson from Wesleyan, but I think the Logan Weathers kid from Wesleyan is a big pick up for them also. Hoping to see him at Guilford College next year if Guilford gets their wish. Efird kid is really good also. Looking forward to maybe getting to see Page vs. GDS in the Timco Invite. That could be a really good game this year.

  2. You stated that you wanted to see Page vs GDS in the Timco but if you have seen GDS play this, then you may want to rethink that game. Page will walk GDS this year. This is the year to get payback on GDS for a lot of teams. GDS always plays great defense but offensively they will have problems against bigger teams and teams with great scoring guards with the new foul calling rules. Page by 13 or more.
