South Carolina Gamecocks start 2014 baseball strong led by DC Arendas(Northern Guilford HS)

Two big wins for the South Carolina Gamecocks with 17-4 and 14-2 vins over the Bucknell Bison and DC Arendas(Northern Guilford High School) was one of the Stars of the Day and John Whittle, with The Big Spur, has all of the news and details on Arendas’ big day….

Several players could make a case for the opening day honor but sophomore DC Arendas had the best day of his career and put forth two games of consistency. He got the start in Game 1 as the designated hitter and responded with a DH-like performance going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. In Game 2, playing third base, he was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two walks.

Arendas, who battled fellow sophomore Marcus Mooney tooth and nail for the shortstop position, deserved to start on opening day, according to head coach Chad Holbrook, and he proved his coach correct. Arendas was the team’s top hitter in the fall scrimmages in terms of batting average and he finished the day 4-for-7 and reached base six of his nine at-bats.

DC, he’ll give you a good at-bat and that’s why I DH’ed him today. He deserved to play today. He has a knack for giving you a good at-bat. A big swing of the bat, went with the pitch on a single to left field. He had some good at-bats all day long I thought, even the ones he made outs on.head coach Chad Holbrook

I’m thankful the coaches gave me an opportunity today. I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity. I was able to get the ball in the air. To say the wind help was an understatement, but we’ll take it.sophomore DC Arendas
