Press Conference was set for Tuesday in Winston-Salem

There has been a Wake Forest University Press Conference scheduled for tomorrow at Bridger Field House to discuss the future of the Demon Deacons’ basketball program. 11am is the start time that we have been told.

There has been some speculation that current Wake Forest coach Jeff Bzdelik will offer up his resignation at this time….

WFU Atheltic Director Ron Wellman has been very busy directing the NCAA Basketball Tournament process, as he is the current NCAA Basketball chairman of the tourmanet selection committee, but all of this has not overwhelmed Wellman and he should be ready to establish and determine the future of the basketball program on Tuesday….

  1. Andy, where are you getting this

No other media outlets are reporting this (yet)

    thanks

  2. Got a tip on this early this morning….We’ll see if it pans out…..You never know, but you sometimes you gotta go…

I remember years ago when I got a tip that Michael Jordan was leaving the Bulls to go play professional baseball with the White Sox organization(Birmingham Barons)….

  3. Looks like anything that was going to happen today(Tuesday) will be postponed due to the weather and Ron Wellman extending his NCAA visits out of town at the NCAA game city sites…(Wellman NCAA Tournament Chairman)

They may need more time to figure out how they want to approach this…

Some sort of basketball wisdom tells you that Jeff Bzdelik has to resign to save some face for AD Ron Wellman, the man who went out on a limb and hired Bzdelik in the first place…

They have a very good friendship from over the years and if Bzdelik resigns/steps down, then that takes some of the pressure off of Wellman, who in turn does not have to fire his friend….

Everything that was to be is postponed for today(Tuesday) with the weather and the overall travel conditions….Wake will try to get all of their plans together and when we get more, we will pass it on…

I don’t think this is a resignation ruse, it really is not a matter of if, but when all of this will take place….

If Ron Wellman has to step up and fire Jeff Bzdelik and push his friend out, it will not be pretty…

The move to make is for Jeff Bzdelik to step down and do it in such a way that it does not hurt Wake Forest, or their future basketball plans and so that it keeps their leader, Ron Wellman in place until he is ready to move on too….

  4. If Wellman can’t handle firing his friend then it’s even more proof of his need to go.

Part of being high up on the food chain is that eventually you have to learn how to put on your big boy pants and make the “tough” (tough for him, not tough for ANYONE ELSE looking objectively at this situation) calls. You have to be willing to realizing that your big ol’ friend may be a good friend but a bad fit. He may be a good golfing buddy but can only win a road ACC game biannually. Honestly at this point the way for Ron Wellman to save face IS to fire this jerkbag straight out. Bz “resigning” gives the impression that Wellman would have kept him, or that he couldn’t make a tough call for the betterment of the program.

You accept the top job, you need to make the top calls. And Wellman is proving over and over and over again that he is incapable of doing so. He needs to make this right or step aside and think of this as an opportunity to spend more time golfing with his buddy – retirement for two should be their dream.

  5. If Bzz gets fired, he gets paid for his final year regardless. If he resigns, he gives that up.
