GC Women’s Lacrosse Tops Methodist 16-6 on Senior Day

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro college women’s lacrosse team defeated Methodist 16-6 on Sunday afternoon. The Pride honored their four seniors Kayla Gonzalez, Micaela Sandoval, Melissa Townsend, and Ariana Vicari prior to the game.

Methodist got on the board first taking an early 1-0 lead. Alexa Besch took a feed from Nadya Fedun tying the game at 1-1. Kirstin Norris then scored the next three goals for a 4-1 lead. The Monarchs then found the back of the net to make it 4-2.

Besch then took a pass from Ashlynn Parks pushing back out to a 5-2 lead. Two minutes later Devan Macheras found the cage off a pass from Norris making it 6-2. Methodist got one more goal, however Greensboro closed out the half with two goals from Parks and a man up goal by Norris giving Greensboro a 9-3 lead going into the break.

In the second half, Amira Khatib and Besch got the first two goals giving Greensboro an 11-3 lead. The Monarch responded with a free position goal making it 11-4. Both teams then traded a pair of goals before The Pride scored four straight for the commanding 16-5 lead. Methodist got the final goal of the game but dropped the game 16-6.

Greensboro outshot their opponents 32-13, while holding a 23-13 margin in groundballs. The Pride were 12-16 on clear attempts while forcing Methodist into 17 turnovers.

Besch led the way in the game with ten shots for four goals. Norris had a game high six goals on eight shots and Parks was close behind with three goals on four shots. Norris and Parks led the way with a game high five groundballs. Kaleigh Hemstock got the win in goal making six saves.

With the win, The Pride improves to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in the USA South. Greensboro will host Huntingdon in the first round of the USA South tournament on Sunday April 6.
