College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 17, Bridgewater 8

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Adam Fiore scored a career-high seven points with a personal-best five goals and two assists in Guilford College’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) 17-8 lacrosse win at Bridgewater College Wednesday.

Fiore got on the scoreboard with 25 second left in the first quarter, which gave the Quakers (6-5, 1-5 ODAC) a 6-3 lead. He tallied the game’s next two goals as part of a 4-0 Guilford run that opened a 9-3 lead. The Eagles’ Kevin Ashcraft tallied with a second left before halftime to make it a 9-4 game at the break.

Guilford broke the game open by scoring four times in the first 3:37 of the third quarter. Chase Clausen started what turned out to be a 7-1 run with the second of his season-high four scores.

Daniel Haupt and Chase Rogers both scored twice for the Quakers, who had eight different goal scorers. Guilford unleashed 55 shots, compared to the Eagles’ 37, and was successful on 19-of-20 clear attempts. Goaltender Thomas Deane made eight of Guilford’s 13 saves in three quarters of play.

Derrick Daniels scored three times and Rob Simmons had two goals for Bridgewater. Conor Lawson made 17 saves in goal. Sam Cheplick won eight-of-12 face-offs and picked up five ground balls.

The Quakers visit league-rival Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday (4/12).
