Tommy Pursley(Northeast Guilford HS) now the head football coach at Tuscola High School

from the Asheville Citizen-Times on former Northeast Guilford Rams head football coach returning to the high school sidelines, as the head coach at Tuscola High School, up toward the North Carolina mountains….Will we see coaches Angell, Sisk, Needham, Via and other former Rams assistants joining Coach Pursley up in the hills???

A veteran with 35 years experience, Pursley retired from Northeast Guilford in 2012 after leading that program to 20 consecutive playoff appearances.

He spent last season as an assistant coach at Brevard College before deciding to return to high-school coaching.

Pursley, 61, replaces Brandon Allen, who resigned after two years and an 11-12 record to take the coaching job at Freedom High. Tuscola was 8-4 last season.

Pursley won 180 games in 20 years at NEG, and has 226 career victories in a career that also includes stops at Trinity High and South Caldwell.

*****Another former Guilford County coach, Donnie Kiefer(Southwest Guilford), also spent several seasons as the head coach at Tuscola….*****

from the Watauga Democrat on Coach Pursley:
Pursley was an assistant coach at Watauga High School during the Pioneers’ state 3-A championship season in 1978. He returned for the 1979 season before accepting the head coaching position at South Caldwell the next season.

He was also a defensive back at Appalachian State.

  1. This comment based on some of our earlier comments:

You really do need to give Coach Jackson a chance this year…

I don’t think Coach Pursley would want too see or hear anybody saying anything bad about his old school…He would not think well of anyone hating on his old school/NEG…

Coach Pursley always supported Northeast Guilford and I’m sure he still does unless they would end up playing Tuscola this year…

Tuscola is now Coach Pursley’s new school and we wish him the best….He has always been a successful coach.

NEG has picked up some new assistant coaches and one of them is the JV head coach and Varsity assistant head coach Quincey Bell….

Coach Bell is a very good football coach and will help the NEG program….It will take little time to get all of the right coaches in place, but with the talent that NEG has had over the years, they ought to end up a winner again soon…

Coach Jackson deserves a chance to make it happen and if you are a true diehard Ram, you need to support him and his program while he is in charge…

I hope they do well this year and I also hope the addition of Coach Bell will be a boost….

NEG has a lot of good kids and we plan to back them up here…

Coach Pursley did such a good job, it will be hard for anyone to top or equal what he did, but one thing is sure/certain, it won’t come without hard work and we need to let these coaches and kids get to work and support them in their efforts….

Let’s stick to supporting our Guilford County teams…
