Watt’s Goal Leads GC Pride Men’s Soccer Over Bishops 2-1

GREENSBORO, NC — The Pride men’s soccer team bounced back from their defeat on Friday afternoon by topping the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan on Pride field 2-1.

The Bishops took an early 1-0 lead in the contest when Charles Chapin connected on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute of play. After Wesleyan took the 1-0 lead, Greensboro College would have several chances to tie the contest but was not able to until ten second before the break. The Pride was awarded a throw in deep in Bishops territory where Craig Gage tossed the ball into the box finding the head of Drew Clukey to send the game into the break tied at 1-1.

In the second half of the game, the Pride seemed to turn up the heat on the Bishops back line. In the 70th minutes of play, Morgan Stevenson played a ball from just outside right line of the 18 yard box to find the head of Shaun Watt putting the Pride up 2-1. Down the stretch, the Pride back line did a good job of keeping Wesleyan off of the board holding on for the 2-1 victory.

Greensboro College was out shot in the contest 13-11. George Dimopoulos led the Pride in shots with three while Watt, Clukey, and Mike Tzavlas each recorded two shots.

Logan Rohde picked up the win in net for Greensboro College with two saves, while Jeper Olsson took the loss for the Bishops.

With the victory for the Pride, they move their overall record to 4-5 on the season and 2-1 in USA South conference play. The Pride men’s soccer team will return to Pride field on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 when they welcome nationally ranked Christopher Newport to town.
